Need advice: Amiga protection/dust cover
Hey everyone,
since I got an Amiga again, I want to keep it in great condition, of course. So I am contemplating about buying one of those old transparent amber-coloured plastic covers in the second-hand market ... Should I get one of these, or did the retro scene come up with better solutions/options ? Thanks ! |

I think I would prefer some solid plastic though, to also shield the Amiga from potentially spilled liquids or dropped items or whatever ... Yeah, I'm paranoid. |

Take this advice from an A500 owner who's has his Amiga since 1988 and still looks new with no yellowing or repairs needed.
1) keep out of sunlight and internal U/V strip lights AT ALL TIMES. 2) keep out of smoking enviroment. 3) keep it in a stable room temperature all year round, no storing in basements, garages or atics. 4) Open her up, get inside her (now now oo'er), I mean take top off and gently brush dust out of it yearly and use air pressure can to clean disk drive and tight area's. 5) Keep covered up at all times when not being used, I always used an unwanted douvet cover folded over may times as it not only keeps dust off the Amiga but also allows it to breath unlike plastic covers. 6) finally (this one really aimed at when bought brand new and down to luck), keep fingers crossed that you've got an Amiga from a good batch that doesn't contain tons of poor flame retardant chemicals, I have seen Amigas yellowed so badly that they look like they have had curry sauce poored over them. Hope this helps. |

These are solid plastic and look tempting, but haven't ordered yet:
