Weird Amiga problem - Auto-firing
Hey guys, here's a strange problem, hope someone can help.
I've had and loved my Amiga 600 for very long time. Over the years I have added:- 1 meg upgrade An accelerator card An IDE CF Card with WHDload I have my Amiga pride of place next to my PC so I can always use it whenever the need grabs me, which is pretty often. A few days ago, I switched it on as usual to play some games and suddenly out of the blue, its started acting very strange - The joystick seems to be firing by itself as if the button is being pressed. For example: When I load a game such as Fire & Ice or Bubba 'n' Stix, the games immediately go straight past the title screen and into the game as if I had pressed the fire button, and when the game starts, the main characters are firing their main weapon by themselves. Things I have tried to remedy the situation:- Removing the memory upgrade. Removing the accelerator card. Removing the hard drive and trying the game on floppies. I have even removed the joystick it still does it. I have now stripped the Amiga down to its bare essentials and it still happens. I have had my Amiga for years and I would say I know a fair bit about them, but this has me completely confused. Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I am at your mercy -Steve |

There is probably a break in one of the connections from the port to the motherboard as a guess, you will need to get the multimeter out and check continuity on the traces from the port pins, this does happen on our amigas, just hope its not a chip problem.
Also as I have stated many times before do not plug in mice or joysticks while the Amiga is on because you have a good chance of blowing chips |

Ok, I will check the continuity later, could this still be the case though if it still happens with no joystick plugged in?
Thanks for your help |

Well, after taking the motherboard out and inspecting, it seems I do not possess the necessary skills to complete the job. The best I could do was to check the continuity to the nearest component.
I guess I'm off to ebay now, sad times, I've had that 600 for many years. Cheers for the help. -Steve |
