Impact '87 vs. Impact '95
Can anyone tell me how to distinguish these two?
I can't for the life of me get this done. HOL has them both ... I have one non-tosec one here, but I can't get to figure out if it's the 1987 version or the 1995 version. This darn title screen looks absolutely the same. Any pointers, ideas...? |

Impact from 1987 only got 80 Levels, so play until Level 81 and you know that you have Impact 95
Hmmmm, another idea .... are those dos or ndos disks ... with dos disks you can look at the file dates |

I know that Impact 95 is a DOS disk, not sure about the original.
I did own the 'original' original but it goes a virus, now I own two 'original' copies of 95. I used to absolutely love this game back in the day, great to see whdload have recently pacthed it! |

Impact / Impact 95
I've recently begun to think that these games are exactly the same....
I have the whdload install for Impact (the 1987 release) and I asked the author to add support for Impact! 95. I MFMWarped my disks (I have two copies of the same game - one was my cousins) and when they were put back to disk they contained exactly the same files with the same file size. Where exactly did HOL find the info that the 95 version has more levels? This surely doesn't seem the case, it just seems as though they re-released it with a 95 to get some more saled EDIT: I've just checked both versions and both have 80 levels. If you type USER on the password screen it takes you to the user created levels which state LEVEL 81 on both versions. This means that both Impact/Impact 95 only have 80 levels, not the extra 48 which where probably user created levels. PROBLEM SOLVED! The modification dates on the files also state that it was last modified in 1987/1986 so they must be the same bloody game! Last edited by killergorilla; 08 April 2004 at 14:12. |

The info. was taken from at least one computer mag (probably CU Amiga and/or AF). Also, here is what was written in the .nfo from HF's crack:
HELLFiRE PRESENTS iNFOFiLE FOR: iMPACT `95 Name.......... Impact 95 Supplied By.... IGGY Company....... Audiogenic Cracked By..... REBEL No. Of Disks.. 1 Date........... 28/4/95 Greetings Lobstas!, Hellfire are back today to bring you another lil release. This time it is Impact 95 from Audiogenic. It`s a standard bat n ball game which was originally released in 1987! This version has been updated with an extra 48 levels added to the original and also includes a nice little level designer screen which lets you edit the later 48 levels. The password user takes you on to level 81 which is where the new ones start. Well guys thats it for now and we will seeya in our next release! @BEGIN_FILE_ID.DIZ iMPACT '95 ECS/AGA (C) AUDiOGENiC [NFO] @END_FILE_ID.DIZ |

Yeah but try running the 1987 version, it also has a level 81 if you type USER and you can access the level designer just the same as you can in Impact 95.
I've yet to check if they have the same extra levels but Impact (1987) definitely has more than 80 levels, and I'd bet it has the same amount as the 95 version. |

For the info bit on HOL. You can remove the supposedly.
The original game had more than80 levels, but the last 48 levels (accessible by the password USER) are the same as the games first 48 levels. The reason they are here is because these are the levels you overwrite with the ones you create in the construction editor. Whereas in Impact 95, they'd edited these 48 levels to make them new levels. It's still the case though, that the ones you create in the construction editor overwrite these 48. |
