WHLoad slave for Dungeon Master: Possible to get it working with JST?

Hi there again

More than often, I find myself using JST instead of WHDLoad to run WHDLoad slaves on my HDD-equiped Amigas with 1.3 kickstarts (be if physical of FPGA ones).
Most slaves work flawlessly this way, or show the exact same problems that they show on WHDLoad on ks 3.1 machines.

But a game that keeps eluding me is Dungeon Master: it's WHDLoad slave won't work under JST because, apparently, the disk 2 is crunched. Thanks to alexh, however, I got a drecrunched disk.2 file, but still JST won't run the game.

So here's my request: would it be possible to have the Dungeon Master WHDLoad slave working under JST? I mean, what would it take? Is it possible at all?

Thanks!!

I don't see why it wouldn't run. Let me check that.

JOTD, why not supporting the protected versions of Dungeon Master ?

From what i see, only psygnosis v3.6 is supported ?

Ah, since DM 3.6 is unprotected, does that mean that it should be possible to simply copy the floppy contents to an HDD directory and have it run from there?
(In a plain 68K, ks 1.3 machine, I mean!)

EDIT: I had already tried that, and I get a "damaged master disk" message.

I've tried in the past and that was pretty difficult with the amiga literally crashing when running the whdload slave and all. But with WinUAE it may be easier (the game has good protection with checksums and all but I remember that a site had exposed them)

Is there an interest to do so?

it's not because there are floppies on disk that the game runs happily from HD. There are several issues, like assigns, memory, ... that requires doing something. Whdload virtual kick solves most of the issues.

I just tried DM2 with JST and it runs fine (from modern winuae setup). Which version of JST are you using? I recommend V7.1 which is the latest.

I am using latest JST (V7.1), but the game I am trying to get working on KS 1.3 via JST is Dungeon Master 1, not Dungeon Master 2.

By DM2 I assume you mean CSB? DM2 is a completely different game requiring an 020 CPU.

First, when I run
Code:
jst dungeonmaster.slave
I get:

Code:
XPK packed files aren't supported.
You can use xfddecrunch or decrunchall script on the data files
disk.2!

So I went and gave it a decrunched disk.2 (in TheZone).
With that, I ran
Code:
jst dungeonmaster.slave
again and after the FTL logo and the language selection screen, I get a black screen.

Sure! Here it is for you to test. Remember I am trying it on a plain 68000 machine with KS 1.3:

Working fine on my configuration: WinUAE, 8MB Z2 memory, kick 1.3

I don't get any language selection screen (I remember there is one in V3.6, but probably skipped now as it was selected), and the "enter/exit" buttons appear beside the maze door. I click on enter and it works.

Have you tried with a plain 68000 CPU in WinUAE?

Can you try to delete the settings so you see the language selection screen?

Sorry, forgot to mention: WinUAE, 8MB Z2 memory, kick 1.3
and 68000

I can't delete the settings (they're on the image). I tried to quit so get the language selection menu. I select "english", screen flashes (os swaps, JST writes back to disk) and game starts again. No issues.

Did you try with WinUAE yourself? or on a real machine?

@jotd I tried on FS-UAE latest version (on GNU/Linux) and on MiSTer.
In both cases, plain 68000, KS 1.3, WB 1.3, 8MB Fast RAM.
