In the sonnet thread the recommended ahi setting is 8bit DMA, but this is really slow and buggy in GLHexen2 warpOS. Switching to ahi fast 8bit stereo ++ fixes the sound issues but as my system default is 8bit DMA I have to manually switch to stereo ++ before loading hexen2. Is it possible to get glhexen2 working with 8bit DMA?

No. But a simple code transplant from one engine to other "could" make different ahi modes to work: Q2 source ahi is similar to GLHexen2 sources.

No. Maybe in the future I could look at the software version as they are separated programs. One of this days (but I'm busy now)

@jack-3d

Well.....8 or 16 bits for ahi sound (dma seems not to be ok for Sonnet, so 8++ stereo)

Freezing?...Hope you use the last version uploaded, not the first ones (oh well I deleted those already). If sound is not correct could be the issue you have.

Have to update the sound functions to enable correct dma.....

Yes 8-bit DMA contrary to all the other WarpOS programs is not good for Hexen. However you will find that SB128 16-bit mode actually works correct in this game, quite well actually. Otherwise use 8-bit fast or whatever you prefer. Also set your sound rate to whatever is set in AHI as well.

Soooooo...

What's the difference between:
- Great 8 bit Paula DMA sound and shitty 16bit SB128 sound
and
- Not working, crashing 8 bit Paula DMA sound and great 16bit SB128 sound

And how can we get best of both worlds?

I dont use SB as I removed all PCI cards out and use just Sonnet, Voodoo an Deneb in Zorro. I used Paula Fast 8bit Stereo++ and GLHexen2 works nice now.

As always, great work- thank you [B]Cowcat

If you want filtering textures, use "Gl_LINEAR" texture mode

Any chance for music (CD or MIDI) support?

Not to speak for Cowcat but CD stuff is pretty weird on Amiga, I don't know what includes to use for it, I think this is why SDL_CD is always disabled.

I'm so sorry, really , but I didn't forget your request: Tried a bunch of times to have a stable non-gl binary and came to the weird conclusion that audio (???) was getting in the way and made game crash randomly.
Will try to rebuild it with other optional audio source (if it's that the problem).

Soon a testing non-gl h2.

what the hell:

I leave that one for testing: If it crashes, try without sound. Better the end gamer to play and see what's going on. Then I will change stuff.

I will not comment about commands, etc. Search the web

You're welcome and test it fully. Major changes should be done for my old ports, anyway.

I am playing two hours.
Sound is perfect. No problem.
Speed is on 320x240 and 480x360 is perfect.
Slow on 640x480 but it is on software mode and that is normal
