This is incredible. How did they manage to record such a clean voice, when even 16-bit sound systems struggled to do that?

It may have already been mentioned, but the music from "Flower Power" by Anarchy is really quite special and damn catchy. For me it's not always about the technical aspect but rather the overall feel music can evoke.

Ugh, not my cup of tea. Sounds like that 1988-89 era of the Amiga Demoscene that I don't much care for. There were only a few exceptions at that time, but from 1990 onwards, things got a lot better.

Demoscene music is generally far superior to game music on AMIGA.

That module is not listed in Janeway as music, so not sure if it can come from demoscene

Wing Commander (orchestral)

Dune (I love how he plays with the 4 channels, swapping sounds from left to right and right to left to create better stereo feeling)

Turrican 2 (the 7 voice intro track I even listened from cassette in the car of my parents)

But the best music in my opinion got delivered by the demoscene.
There's so much high quality.
Or even cracktros, like this one from Classic. I love it.

I really think that music that can like can come both from demos and games without no differences

Why demoscene music (and i love demoscene) should be "better" ?

I agree with you about Turrican 2, that music player is pure awesomeness.

I also agree that the Demoscene does consist of high-quality tunes and compositions, but I like variety, like the use of "real" instruments rather than synth or chiptune-type stuff all of the time.

Probably because most sceners also make games, and vice versa? Team 17 is a massive example of sceners who went on to make great games.

The problem I have with the early Amiga Demoscene of the 1980s is that there was practically no innovation or even design, and since I like computer music more than anything, it was particularly galling to me because so many tunes in those 1980s prods would use the same stock sound samples from the first tracker programs (ST-01 I believe it was called) - so boring.

From 1990 onwards, however, I bet even they got fed up of endless bobs, scrollers, copper bars and garish logos in their prods, and tried all manner of different things.

The demo coders had more freedom.
No strict deadlines. No limitation to 3 channels, because the 4th one is for the soundfx. No strict limitation regarding size in bytes ("it has to fit on one disk") or RAM usage.
More fun, time and freedom to experiment.
You often are better or invest more energy when you do it for fun and not because the boss forces you to write a game soundtrack for a game genre you don't like.

That all leads to the result that more demo soundtracks than game soundtracks are of high quality.

Have to say IK+ is one I could listen to and have listened to for hours. Before I got back into Amigas again one of the first things I did was look that up on youtube and listened to the video of the music over and over. It's like 7-8 mins long or something I just listened over and over lol
Check out this guys version of it, it's fucking incredible I have to say!

Other favourites that spring to mind,

Switchblade theme throughout is good.

The song in Monkey Island in the bar is a cracker!

Wolfchild opening title screen music is excellent.

Ruff n Tumble has nice music throughout.

Motorhead game has pretty cool tunes on each level, quite partial to the Rave level (sacrilegious to say that as a metaller ) and the Ska level tunes.

I like all the music in the original Street Fighter 2 game for the Amiga, the one no one likes as it's so slow!

Hmm I'm sure there are tonnes more I just can't think off right now. Oh newer one I discovered would probably be the music in Twin World.

Rings of Medusa and Return of Medusa

A Prehistoric tale

These were all made by Jochen Hippel. Rings of Medusa is not so good, Return of Medusa (intro/ingame) music is much better.

many, of course
the output power of the bass instrument in all the Jambala tracks, amazing, it seems lossless quality

The Wall - Turrican 2
Beyond the mind and reality - Shadow of the beast
Options 2 tune - Flashback
Ecolove - Dune
Game Over tune - Unreal

and a lot more

Shadow of the Beast for me - a lot of the tracks are great, but the introduction theme was (and still is) awesome

Agree about Turrican 2 also

(especially Rockoon or Lily on the Beach style)
that hurts sooo good
[ Show youtube player ]

And then some jazz fusion on Wonder dog!!!
[ Show youtube player ]

And the interactive techno-deep house of Chaos Engine!!!
[ Show youtube player ]

Also the soundtrack of Shadow of the Beast 2 and 3 got excellent moments! (cannot choose right now)

Rarely games soundtrack did reach this level of sophistication before Huelsbeck, Iveson, Joseph and Wright - before was mostly demo style tracks and of course Cinemaware - but they brought game soundtracks to a higher standard!

Saimon, have you actually HEARD any demo sountrack from around 1994-95 onwards, to today (2011)? You'd be blown away by what's possible.

I think I'll share my list of personal favourite Amiga demos in that timespan tomorrow, so you can see what you've been missing.
