Pinball Dreams / Fantasies Joypad support

Hi dear, EAB Community

I wanted to ask, if there are Versions/Hacks for Pinball Dreams & Pinball Fantasies to use the Joypad/Joystick.

You see, i have an old friend who always wanted to try those games,
but he can´t use the keyboard controls, because he had an accident years ago at his workplace and is since then not as "mobile" as he was before

It hurt´s my heart, honesty, because he always loved to play real pinball so much; and now he cant even stand up right for a few minutes

It would be so nice if he would be able to play those old classics, he would love it.

Thank you so much guys and please take; health is the most valuable gift.

Pinball Fantasies CD32 version uses joypad since 1992 or such.

I'll be considering adding joypad support to Pinball Dreams Galahad install as well (just checked, yay! Galahad provided the source and I have it)

Of course with an emulator, it is possible to configure any key to a joypad too.

My Amiga is 16-Bit and my old Buddy is not a computer guy at all, so WinUAE is out of the question.
Anyway, every help is much appriciated.
Thank you very much.

Works pretty well on real hw.
Things I noticed:
- left flipper gets stuck very rarely (twice in ~20 mins)
- the game paused once randomly without any button press or button release
- music cannot be turned off/on

already 98% playable, the pad layout is fine so thank you

It only works with a CD32 Joypad

Would be awesome if it would work with a 2 button joypad.

(Dpad = Left Flipper, Fire1= Luch Ball, Fire2= Right Flipper, DPad Up=Nudge/Tilt)

We have only a Sega Mega Drive Pad, you know.
Still, much thanks for the effort JOTD.

Just tried this on Pinball Dreams, is there a way of enabling the joystick mod when the game loads, do I need to put it in the WHDLoad command where the slave command is..?

Code:
cd cd32:games/PinballDreams
    cd32:c/whdload5 PinballDreams.Slave
I have added it to the 200 Games CD that runs AGS but its not a CD no more its in a HDF file now running in Retroarch in P-UAE on a THEVIC20 so I can now add more games to it.

On THEC64 Mini/Maxi/THEVIC20 you can not use a real keyboards, its the firmware(It missing udev) so have to use a virtual keyboard so this would be great to use with THEC64 Joystick.

if you configure as CD32 joypad this is automatically detected, no need for tooltypes or such

I need the tooltype for the 2 joystick support, THEC64 dose not use the CD32 Game pad, it uses USB controllers and Joysticks, it uses its own Joystick, thats looks like the C64 DTV joystick, it made by the same people(Ironstone Partners), it uses USB controllers and joystick using SDL, cause its running Retroarch.

Just tried customx=y and whdload failed with

Code:
wrong number of arguments
Code:
cd cd32:games/PinballDreams
cd32:c/whdload5 PinballDreams.Slave customx=y
I guess I am doing something wrong ...?

whdload5 is the latest version of WHDLoad

OK its CUSTOM2...

Code:
cd cd32:games/PinballDreams
cd32:c/whdload5 PinballDreams.Slave CUSTOM2
I should of looked at the readme...

Quote:
If CUSTOM2 is set the controls try to use only standard joystick (port 1) inputs so:

Red - start game / add a player (numerical enter)
Down - launch ball (return)
Up - nudge table upwards (space bar)
Right - right flipper
Left - left flipper

control keys are achieved through joystick (port 0)

Joy2 button 1 - escape
Joy2 left - Y
Joy2 right - N

menu options:
- left: ignition
- right: steel wheel
- down: beat box
- up: nightmare

Of course, that setting isn't practical with a joystick because you cannot use left+right at the same time, but
the person who asked for this feature wants to create an arcade cabinet so it's not a problem activating left+right

to enter hiscore, you need keyboard. If you don't have a keyboard, you can
still skip this part by entering "Y" (yellow), "P" (play) or "space" (up). It won't
be your initials, okay, just change your name to Yander Price and it will be fine.

(with CUSTOM2 set, use the joystick in port 0 left/right to enter Y or N)

Just tried `cd32:c/whdload5 PinballDreams.Slave CUSTOM2` and its saying bad number...?

Oh hold on, customx=y I thought y was a number, is it for Yes..?, silly me, I sometimes do not understand things straight away, I am dyslectic, and autist too.

so is it CUSTOM2=Y...

Still didn't work still saying bad number...?

I am now lost my way and can not get out of this maze...lol ...HHHHAAAAA

I just tried it in Pinball Dreams information box too, in its icon and it did nothing, did not turn it on...? does the command work at all, or am I doing it wrong...?

I put..

CUSTOM2=Y below PRELOAD...

PRELOAD
CUSTOM2=Y

I run it and its changed it to CUSTOM2=0 so do I change that 0 to 1 to enable it...?

I think you need to put more info how to set this properly cause I am guessing now.
YES got it, it has to be CUSTOM2=1 to enable it so to enable custom 1 it has to be CUSTOM1=1

So its like binary 0 or 1 for off or on...

FINALLY...

it's not binary, it's a bitmask. But in that case CUSTOM2=1 works (sorry I didn't have the doc on my phone)

If there are several options, this can be CUSTOM2=3 or any 8bit combination. Ex: enable all CUSTOM2=255 to enable every possible bit option available.

glad you sorted it.

A idea for users with one hand, been able to use the mouse as the flippers so Left Mouse Button = Left Flipper and Right Mouse Button = Right Flipper, Pull back on mouse to pull back the plugger and release and left mouse button to start game/add players, press both mouse buttons to exit table and go back to menu.
