X-OUT vs Z-OUT (AMIGA) - Which is the best shooter?
Hi everyone and welcome to the March 2017 edition of the Which Is Best?
Last month I placed Turrican and Turrican II against each other and after a mega battle with the votes I can announce Turrican II stormed the victory with 52 votes with Turrican 1 claiming just 14. It may sound like a landslide but most were torn between the two stating the first Turrican game was also a cracking classic,...which it is but only one of the games could be chosen and most of you sided with the sequel. This month I'm going to place two Amiga shooters side by side,...X-Out and It's sequel Z-Out, which do you think is the better shooter?!, only your votes will determine that,...happy voting! P.s, I will only count the votes stated in the comments below and on the Youtube video. [ Show youtube player ] Zeus. |

Loading music from X-Out is my ringtone. I think title, in-game music and sounds are better in Z-Out.

Both are great in their own right, but if one has to be chosen, then Z-Out it is.

Z-Out without a shadow of a doubt. X-Out tripped over its own feet with the whole upgrade process, whereas Z-Out chose the R-Type model and benefitted hugely.
And it had a kick-ass soundtrack too (my particular favourite is 11:23 - level 4 or 5, I forget which - why does this one never get the remake treatment?). |

Well, during the last 17 years i played all the console and coin-op shooters, and z-out is undoubtely one of the best ever in the r-type style, all systems included. Infinitly better than x-out too.

People also tend to forget that this gem can also be played at 2 simultaneously, and they shouldn't ! Last edited by Vollldo; 20 March 2017 at 23:19. |

I consider Z-out technically superior to X-out, however x-out had its good things just did not liked the underwater environment.
Z-Out could have been something superb if the enemy and landscape graphics were more inspired. Could someone consider to mod it? |

Hope this 'Which is best' is a regular thing ... *cross fingers*
Both games are good play.. Played both on my Amiga back in the day, and now emulation equally... I don't consider either are better than the other. |

X-Out for me all the way, more imaginative enemies, better music, upgrade system...etc
Z-Out always felt cheap to me, the Title music is great but in-game music for the 1st level in particular is atrocious. So... X-Out for me wins |

Yeah, must say X-Out for me also... but to be honest I haven't really played both games that much...
Too many other good games that take preference |

Z-Out has the Giger levels but X-Out has awesome music and the underwater concept is more interesting and graphically more impressive, and the multitude of upgrade options are cool. I also like how there's a 3d effect when flying (or rather, diving) up or down.

I can announce X-Out gained the victory with 20 votes with Z-Out claiming 15, Z-Out was storming ahead at the beginning by 12 votes to 5 but then X-Out started to crawl back to the point it was 14 all but in the end it overtook Z-Out and claimed the victory,...nowhere near as many votes this time as the previous comparrison (Turrican vs Turrican II) but maybe it was all down to not many liking those games.
New edition of "Which Is Best" coming up :-D |
