Any point trying to run WHDL on A600 ?

Got a stock A600 with 1 MB expansion (total 2 Mb). I've noticed that WHDL doesn't run great since the screen goes blank and everything pauses whenever it's loading from the harddrive. Will getting a 4 Mb fast RAM expansion solve this or is it a limitation of the 68000? (on the A1200 it's not doing this) I'm mostly watching demos and occasionally playing some games. Would I be better off with a Gotek drive?

Cheers.

I think 4MB fast can solve this easily.

Might be a memory issue, i believe you only need better than a 68000 to enable the quit key. Some require 2mb chip ram , more chip ram the better, I can't remember if the a600 allows you to add the 1 mb expansion as chip.

Goteks are great, have one, but they are no faster than floppy. But you can store a lot of
floppies on the usb for the gotek. Does get unwieldy with a lot of adfs

Hey RG! Good to see you here,.

this is because WHDLoad cannot load all game data in RAM with such little available.

Try JST instead, latest version supports WHDLoad installs. An underrated tool most people rarely use for no good reason.

It will not load all games fine, but a lot more than WHDLoad would.

Recent patches for certain games do allow quitkey on 68000 CPU.

You can search for 'quitkey' on the news page to find those games:

A tip for running WHDLoad on low memory machines is to use TinyLauncher in RAD mode. This makes use of the RAD drive to load the WHDLoad game, saving a bit of memory.

However, yes, getting a 1MB Chip ram expansion upgrade, and a 4 or 8 MB Fast ram upgrade is highly recommended for running WHDload.

There's also CD32load that works on some games with 1 meg A600 with IDE FFS HD (for instance Silkworm), without OS flashes!
