Prometheus PCI & Voodoo 3 PCI GFX Card
Hopefully in the right section... please move if not...
okay, decided I needed another a4000 this particular one comes with a Prometheus PCI Board fitted with Voodoo 3 PCI GFX Card... I'd like information about where I can get the last released P96 software for it (can you upload or direct me) How I can check whether it is a bus problematic one or a more recent rendition (apparently it was purchased from redrumloa in August 2004 and what network card is the best to get for it? I want quality and reliability and supported driver would be good too I currently have two a4000s plugged into a router both running airadne ii cards and sporting cybervision3D cards respectively... time one (should be the PPC but probably won't be at this stage) upgraded graphics and network capabilities... I already know there is only 12 megs/sec between pci and zorro3 and that is more than fine... won't go out a buy a pci storage solution just yet to utilise the 120 meg/sec alternative... thanks for listening and helping out and joining me in celebrating a4000 config number eight! |

The drivers should be on matay.pl but they appear to have exceeded their bandwidth limit, IIRC this includes the p96 software, but I could be wrong.
Somewhere, I have the various Prometheus drivers which are AFAIK the latest versions, I can upload them to the zone (provided there would be no problems with me doing that, I'm not entirely sure what the rules are) The only supported ethernet cards are ones based on the realtek rtl8029 chip, fortunately they're common and cheap. I can't say I've had any problems with mine, which is a generic one. If the card came from redrumola, then it is in theory from the last production run, as he bought Matay's remaining stock. |

I found two drivers on my AmigaActive CD for the promethus card.
One is the 3dfxvoodoo.chip and the other is Prometheus.card. I'll upload them to the 'Zone'. |

shouldn't be any problems distributing drivers for hardware, if they are supposed to accompany the card in the first place... if there anything wrong I'm sure someone would have said something by now...
nothing gets past the watchful eye of EAB legal soooo... Secret Vampire all up to you thanks for the interest people and thanks for some physical information Lopos2000 |

@Slayer
I believe Picasso 96 V2.1B contains the latest drivers for the Prometheus. I don't think you'll find it on the Matay website because of a situation that arose with Elbox a few years back. |

OK, uploading as we speak, had to archive using tar and gzip, since I'm on a Mac and don't have a convenient LHA or zip archiver, you should be able to decompress on an Amiga anyway.
I have a Voodoo 3 in mine, but I haven't had much chance to play with it yet, waiting for my cyberstorm to arrive as that will require a reinstall of everything. |

@AMIGAZ
Fair enough.....I was at work and only checked the version string (they didn't change it for the newer version). So what advantage, if any, does the newer version give? Improved stability? I gather Elbox recommended its use for the Mediator? Quote:

What is it specifically that you want to know? in conjunction with the PPC 604e 233mhz and running games like hexen and other ports of that nature even wipeout for the Amiga and using frogger for movies... would you say I'd get a vast improvement over my cybervision64/3D? any tips or problem solving or problems you have encountered running anything through this setup? initially the PCI and Voodoo will be in this machine... a simple 060 a4000d... with 128 megs memory... thanks for any consideration |

As for problems encountered, I can't say I really had many. I only had a Voodoo 3 card connected to the Prometheus (no bus master update). The P96 drivers I got from Matay didn't work out of the box when I bought the card from them, but the latest updated drivers did. WHDLoad mostly won't work with the Prometheus/Voodoo 3 combo (you'll often get black screens or just music when running patched games), but I had a non-PCI gfx card also installed and set up a dual boot partition for when I wanted to play WHD games. That was the only real downside to the Prometheus card for me. |

thanks for that...
wonder if there is a place we can get our cards updated? and yes, even on this machine I can play 24bit movies via frogger in noskip quite quick and smoothly indeed... afterall slow motion sometimes is better than realtime heh... |

Matay may well still perform the upgrade free of charge (see FAQ). If so, Filip Dab-Mirowski is the man at Matay to email about this. Otherwise Redrumloa on Amiga.org might be worth asking.
Besides the FAQ, there is an old Prometheus mailing list on Yahoo groups that you might find interesting to read: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Amiga-Prometheus/messages Last edited by DrBong; 07 September 2006 at 12:03. |
