Installing SFS in winUAE using CF card

Hi

I'm trying to prep a CF card for use in Winuae. I'm using Killergorilla's excellent HD install guide (http://wiki.abime.net/amiga:killergo...winuae_realhdd).

Now I have everything done, except the last gasp format i.e. issuing the SFSFormat command thus:

Open a command window by pressing WindowsKey+E In the following box type Work:SFSformat DRIVE DH0: NAME drivename (replace drivename with the name you want the drive to be labelled)

Obviously my paths are slightly different, however I have used this several times with no problem. On Issuing the command I get the output window with:

Press RETURN to begin Formatting or CTRL-C to abort:

I hit return and get

Now since it hasn't happened before, I'm slightly baffled... As far as I can tell everything goes well, I have the DH0:NDOS and DH1:NDOS Icons on my workbench as I should..... i.e the two unformatted partitions but issuing the format command seems to make it sulk. if it was pointing to the wrong place/file I'd either get a <bad args> or not found error...

Is it something to do with my WinUAE settings ?

Andrew

I have never used sfsformat, always formatted from WB. (yes, it works with all filesystems, quick format only sends "format yourself, please" dos packet to the filesystem)

Thats what I thought and that is why I am baffled.

As you say - formatting from WB works fine (I've tried it)

Unless something strange (corruption) is happening when I unpack the SFS.lha Archive to my shared windows/amiga drive on PC.....

I shall try again but decompress the files from winuae/workbench.

Edit : Nope still crashes with that error... hmm.

Downloaded 2.0.0 Beta 17 from here.

http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...&postcount=282

SFS format now works, doesnt junk the "Amiga".

Admittedly I hadn't set up a config (standard 2MB chip lol, 68020) just got it to show my PC drives at startup and added my HD (using shortcut and -disableharddrivesafetycheck)

I will now go try it in 1.61 but get rid of my configs lol.

EDIT: Yup that did it.... something in one of the configs I was using upset things. If I use a bog standard A1200 its fine.

Perhaps this fixed it:

Beta 1

- RDB filesystem loader still had fse_PatchFlags hack instead of handling it 100% correctly (no functional change, at least with any popular filesystem)
I guess there was functional change after all

Hrm...

Works in both 1.6 and 2.0 booting from an HDF file, however trying copy/write to CF using DOPUS junks out with another "Software error". Also junks out copying in workbench.

Strange, Maybe the CF Card is dodgy (Sandisk Ultra III)......... Will check read/writes with my working CF....

EDIT:- Yeah that was it.... "normal CF" works fine read and write, so there must be a problem with the one I was trying to prep....

OoooooOo I'm embarrased now

sorry about all this...

cheers

Andrew
