Internet sharing with Roadshow TCP/IP stack

Hi,
could anyone help me with that? Is it even possible?

I got Amiga 1200 with two NICs:
1. HydraNet, which is connected to my Internet provider's modem (DHCP);
2. X-Surf - I want to use it to share Internet with my second Amiga (DHCP as well);

Question - how to set it up?

Question - why, oh why?

Why don't you just use a switch, or router?

(if you really want to do that, I don't know if it's possible with Roadshow, but MiamiDX can do it at least, although it has other downsides then)

Just for fun. I can use Miami, no problem but what kind of downsides you mean?

Miami is half slower than other stacks... tries to check if keyfiles are sent and has backdoors

Roadshow definitely supports DHCP for address assignment and for automatically setting gateway and DNS resolver addresses.

You need to copy the appropriate net interface drivers from SYS:Storage/NetInterfaces to DEVS:NetInterfaces. However, as far as I can tell there is no driver for HydraNet. In addition, I don't believe that Roadshow can be used to bridge NICs -- you will need to connect your second Amiga to your router/modem (or get a switch and connect your Amigas to that, then the switch to your router/modem). Honestly, you should avoid trying to bridge network connections except with hardware specifically meant for that!

What about Miami? Is it possible there?

According to jPV above, MiamiDX should be able to do it, but I've never used Miami myself and so I can't say either way. Either way, though, you're much better off just buying and using a proper switch.

Back in the day I used Miami to share my dial-up connection over my LAN. It worked very well, and later on it was the only stack that could handle the funky network setup I had in uni (even my Windows 98 machine couldn't really deal with it properly, let alone share the connection). It's certainly extremely flexible. But its DHCP support is next to useless, and as others have said, it's the slowest of the three main Amiga stacks.

The Hydra is a normal SANA-2 network card.

Connect both Amigas to the modem. Done.

Uh, I wanted to avoid that but OKEY... let me explain my case:
1. I'm on some amiga related event;
2. there is only one cable provided for each table/stand;
3. I got two Amigas and I want both to have access to the Internet;

I know, I know! I can take some switch with me but there is also a limit for electric sockets per table. Is it clear now? ;-)

You must use static ip addresses belonging to same network mask, set the sharing machine as a gateway and enable nat and input its ip address as the gateway of the client machine. I don't know if roadshow can do that but miamidx and genesis (amitcp 4.x) surely can.

I've been there many times, and in my opinion it's just the easiest to take some spare router with you, or buy some cheap one if you don't have any extra routers in the closet, cheapest ones are like 20e or so. The router connects to the public network and makes your own local network for your Amigas. This way you can even configure the network for Amigas at home and you save time when you don't have to fight with whatever network it happens to be at the event place. Both Amigas would also work independly on the network if other one must be rebooted or is used some gaming or demos etc.

It also isn't a big deal to take enough extension cords for the electricity just for one more plug
