Deluxe Galaga v2.6c AGA - different versions
Can somebody tell me the difference between the GALAGA executables (409.940 bytes vs 246.892 bytes) from these two archives?
Deluxe Galaga v2.6c AGA - The official freeware version http://aminet.net/game/shoot/DeluxeGalaga_A.lha Deluxe Galaga v2.6c AGA - HD version (AGA) - HD only! http://www.back2roots.org/Games/File...%20Galaga%2C2/ As both archives contains the same version of the game (v2.6c AGA - Freeware/Shareware/whatever...), the GALAGA executalbles should be identical. How can i find out if the file is compressed (e.g XPK, XFD, Powerpack)?
In the first archive i could unpack some XPK compressed files with the command 'pack #?' But the GALAGA executable has still the same size... How can i decompress the GALAGA executable? Last edited by cfTrio; 08 February 2013 at 13:46. |

Sometimes you should see horizontal lines while depacking, just load the game to see. I think if you open executable file with text editor header should have name of packer.

I have attached the binary differences...
One of the XPK compressed files (first Screenshot, left side) begins with XPKF as you can see. But the compressed? GALAGA executable (second Screenshot, left side) tells me nothing... Yes, i know the colored? horizontal lines. But in both versions these lines do not appear. |

You can see 'PK' few times, it may be some rare or custom packer. Zip have PK string but should be only once and can not pack executable file and still be usable. It may be PK Lite but I know only PC-DOS version.

Aminet version is packed with PowerPacker 3.0, the BTTR executable is uncrunched. Once decruched, both versions are exactly the same.

Thanks s2325 for the PK hint
Finally with the tools in the archive xfdmaster.lha (aminet) i found out (with the command 'xfdList') that the GALAGA executable was 'PowerPacker 3.0' packed. With the command 'xfdDecrunch GALAGA' i could decrunch the GALAGA executable and now it is binary same with the GALAGA executable in the archive from the BTTR webside. Thanks StingRay - you was a little faster than i Now, all decrunched files from the free aminet version 'DeluxeGalaga_A.lha' are (beside the updated GUIDE) binary same to the 'registrated' Deluxe Galaga version from the warblade website. So, Deluxe Galaga was always Free/PD? Last edited by cfTrio; 08 February 2013 at 17:24. |
