So long as you pronounce it with a hard "g" you're good.

The reason I ask is that some members of Psygnosis were doing a talk at Play Expo in 2017 retro event and this question was asked, they said it was prounced 'SIG' nosis as the guy who invented it (Roger Dean?) pronounced it 'SIG' nosis! BUT, on the intro for Blood Money it's clearly pronounced 'SIGH' gnosis contradicting what they said?

So which do YOU prefer, SIG or SIGH?
Well then, I was way off. I always pronounced it as pee-saj-nah-sos.

So just recorded this video via WinUAE for Blood Money:

Sorry, but it's slightly out of sync.

I say "Psy" (as in PSYchology) and "Gnosis". It's the correct pronunciation, considering the etymology of the name.

I always pronounced it that way, but back in my youth most of my mates said it the portuguese way: p'seeg-noh-sees

I do when I'm playing the C64 version of Shadow of the Beast:

EDIT: Read the scrolltext when the game starts.

Shadow of the Beast: all problems can be solved by running towards it and punching it. Now there is a life lesson for you.

I too used to pronounce it SIG-Nosis, but have since learned that was incorrect. I had a similar experience with Wacom.. for years I pronounced it Way-Com, but then I saw a promotional video from them and learned it is pronounced Wack-um.

The guys from Psygnosis said it's pronounced that way. It's not incorrect. It's just not the popular pronounciation which I guess stemmed from the Blood Money intro.

It would be nice if Ray Norrish would log back in and clear up why he used an incorrect pronounciation in the intro (assuming it was him according to the top comment by him at this YouTube video: [ Show youtube player ])

Lol, it's lovely when you get corrected by someone just to find out they were the incorrect ones.

Maybe they were trying to fake some kind of accent or something.

Just got a prod from someone that this discussion was going on here.
Well, it wasn't my voice on the intro, but a friend of mine.
Interestingly, my friend and I had the same discussion back in the day - you saw it written down all the time, but no-one had actually heard it spoken.
Reason enough for us to do 2 takes at the time with both the [SIG]nosis and [SIGH]nosis pronunciations and yea, they selected the [SIGH] pronunciation, yo our surprise.
