Checking for genuine CPUs?

I've a picked up a couple of Motorola processors recently for an acceptable price - but I'm not sure how to check if they're genuine without putting them into a machine at the moment (My A4000 is still in bits from a refurbish).

I did have a quick check on google, but couldn't find anything helpful - Is there an easy way to check?

Are the fakes just other masks re-labelled?
