Pinball games start issue

I have a number of pinball games - some demos, one original and several of dubious origin. Fantasies, Dreams, BD, Slamtilt etc

I have the manuals, too - but can't find a way of starting any of the games.

I can select the number of players with the F key - is that supposed to start the game, too?

I'm stumped. I used to really like Amiga pinball - it's the best!

Any help appreciated

JD

Yes and use arrow down to launch the ball.

Yeah - doesn't work, for some reason. Oh well...

I only use a real A1200, Djay - I have UAE and Amikit etc, but as long as I have the original kit, I'll stick with it.

I also have a real Spectrum - but I'm considering selling it on ebay and just using my emulator - also use a C64 emulator.

I learnt basic on the C64 in 1993, having had my interest awakened by the army on an Acorn in 1982. I borrowed a 1000-odd page book from a German library, after having had an industrial accident and spent all my sick leave learning it

Problem is, that was 17 years ago, and I can't remember owt about it now.

So I just bought an Amiga Basic book and aim to start again.

JD

PS - I just had a thought (oh dear... : ) - do the F keys need to be enabled or activated on an A1200? I'm sure I saw an 'Fkey' tooltype or something somewhere. I have a brand new keyboard from Amigakit, so I'm sure it won't be duff.

It's probably worth noting that on Slam Tilt you need to press Return to launch the ball and not the down arrow

As for the function keys - nope, no need to 'activate' them. When you press F1 etc at the attract sequence does it have any effect at all? Does the game start or does it just not register with the game?

Nothing happens at all. Isee all the text running across the score LEDs and the table just keeps scrolling up and down - that's it

Weird! I did just think maybe it is your keyboard but presumably you had to press a function key to get to a table in the first place...

Same problem is when you have wrong settings in WinUAE. Sometimes you can not press anything or ball can stuck somewhere on table forever. I noticed it only in Pinball Fantasies.

Okay - Slamtilt is working fine, but the others are still not.

I got "Steel Wheel" to start in Pinball Dreams - but that was it. I could launch the balls, but had no other control at all. After all 3 balls had gone down the hole, the game finished and I couldn't start another.

Have to stick to SlamTilt for now.

JD

PS - according to that text, I'll unplug my gamepad and see if that helps. Thanks for putting it up

If trying different of combinations of port switching does not work try cleaning the end of the contacts going to the amiga the static and dust build up sometimes interferes with the controls.

Hmm, never had problems with my *cough* backup copies of Pinball Dreams, Fantasies or Illusions on my A500. Just had a Comp Pro not a game pad though. Interesting if that would cause the keyboard to not function properly.

All the pinball games on winuae i have spent ages trying to get then working properly they have been one the hardest to configure out of my 4000+ amiga games.
Like tcd says it could well be the gampad you will need to try a good quality joystick on it.
What are the pins like inside the ports are they bent.
Also try switching the membranes around inside the keyboard.

Er... never has an issue with any of them (except for the 'how do I get to table x' maybe). That said, I played them for a long time on my real machine, so that might be the reason.

They're still not working (except Slamtilt) - so if they work fine on your A500, I might just try ReLoKick and see if that helps.

Hello, this is a well known problem with older versions of Pinball Dreams (A500 game) and an A1200. It is best to use the WHDLoad version where this problem is fixed.

BTW: All our keyboards are tested before despatch.

Thanks for that tip - I'd not heard of them, but I have now and have got their 9 () available pinball game installers.

I'll give 'em a try tomorrow.

for games that install, i tend to install using adfs and winuae, grab the contents of the folder in windows and copy it to my EasyADF card

then just copy from the card straight to my Amiga HD

saves writing disks all the time

side note, i have installed Pinball Fantasies (CD32 rip) and it works fine on my A1200
