Alley Cat for the AMIGA - well, sort of :)
Well hello there, Cat Lovers and Retro Fans
I always wanted to see the classic Game Alley Cat on the Amiga but it was never ported. [ Show youtube player ] So i seached in this Thread if there was any mention of AlleyCat. http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=85200&page=5 Nothing I explained there why this game is so special to me and a lovely fellow named NeoHippie2016 told me there was a CD32 version. It was not a true port, but was Emulated. (maybe one day we get a true port) So i looked at the Image, optimized a few things and here it is. Sure it´s emulated but its the best thing we have for now and it runs pretty nicely on my A600Furia So here it is. Alley Cat by Bill Williams Please Enjoy this classic game http://eab.abime.net/zone/CAT.lha Last edited by Torti-the-Smurf; 06 October 2021 at 13:29. Reason: found a typo ! |

Youre missing CROSSDOSFILESYSTEM in L:
Make sure you have it there ! - Thats the cause why you get that Error. Meow |

I have CrossDOSFileSystem there, so that cannot be the cause.

Same error. SnoopDOS log reveals it is is trying and failing to open "DEVS:filedisk.device".
Also the script is setting SYS: to DH0: afterwards which is problematic; you can't assume DH0: is the user's boot device. In my case and many others it is not. |

Strange, the upload works now. (tested in winuae and on Amiga600 Furia, using WB3.9)
The line after PC-Task would only kick in when you end PC-Task (RAmiga Del) That would not be so problematic and pretty much everyone has DH0: as default but you can change that easily. Hang on.... i changed the skript to add Devs: to the Cat local. (have forgotten to do so; stupid me) Please download again and try it. (sorry - but it did work even without it, at least in WB3.9) Last edited by Torti-the-Smurf; 06 October 2021 at 13:31. |

I'm using OS3.2.
Moving filedisk.device to DEVS: makes it work. The emulation is pretty good, the main problem is that it doesn't switch to the red/green/yellow/black palette when it should (eg. in rooms), and the sound is a bit different. |

Finally. Sorry for the rushed Skript (i was so hyped, but it did work on WB3.9 )
That with the colour is no problem for me. If i remember correctly it was like this on our computer as well. Dosent bother me that the Cheese is not green and so They only thing is the Fish tank. Freddy the Cat begins to flash when he needs Air. That makes the Fishgame a little harder. You have to time it in your Head. Sound is exactly how it should be, only the "grab" sound is more "Scratchy" which i like make sense for a CAT We are dealing with Emulation here, dont forget. Just so happy that i can play it now on my Amiga. Besides, there is also a connection from Alley Cat (my first game) to my second game Defender of the Crown. Bill Williams worked on that as well What a coincidence ! I think there are a few versions of this Game. You know, because it also dosent have the Highscores. (and i played like a kitty God yesterday... still, no highscore table) Maybe they are already so high, but i dare you to trigger the Highscore Table. Lets see if somebody can do it (CHALLENGE STARTED !! ) Last edited by Torti-the-Smurf; 06 October 2021 at 14:16. Reason: adding stuff |

I am pretty sure that would not work on a A600 Furia Setup Still, so happy i can play it now on my Amiga. Sure, some people would say "Whats the point, just play it on PC" Yes, i could play it on my Laptop but it would need 100x more power than my trusty Amiga, amongst other reasons, besides; i love my Amiga Quote:
Alley Cat on PC and than later we got an Amiga where we bought Defender of the Crown. I never knew those had a connection. Bill Williams PS:i think it´s needles to say, but the jump from PC Alley Cat (where the gameplay is still great) to Defender of the Crown was/is Mindblowing Last edited by Torti-the-Smurf; 06 October 2021 at 18:55. Reason: found a typo, like usual. Those damn mini Keyboards :) |

I was hoping to see a native port of Alley Cat, maybe one day there will be one. The Atari 8-bit version has better graphics, but I didn't really like the music.

But i am 100% with you on the Port. That would be Smurfttastic. Until then, this ist the best we have. Please Enjoy PS:This is what i imagine for the Amiga Port. The Remeow Edition. It has all Versions + a new Redrawn Look in one Package. You can choose whatever you like. https://www.joflof.com/alley.html Pawsome Last edited by Torti-the-Smurf; 06 October 2021 at 20:03. Reason: adding the Remeow Link - Its free :) So, youre PC/Laptop already is running then give it a shot :) |

Eh, I think Alley Cat actually crushes DotC on gameplay. Gfx/sfx is another matter of course In fact, I also think the original is better than Remeow. That remake is a nice effort but the first one's gameplay is just supertight. |

100 % agree with you.
I could play Alley Cat forever, like a great Arcade game, but DotC was boring after finishing it with all the 4 guys (and that took only a few days). Still, DotC it left an impression, but i missed Alley Cat so much. The Remeow Edition is great because it unites all the Styles and if somebody likes a new kind of Paint, it has the option. (i still prefer the CGA or Jr. look - for that clean and good to read graphics) Hope you enjoy this gem. So fun to play when i am already on my Amiga |

I don´t think so; it was no compilation. This was the basic.
http://grandis.nu/eabsearch/search.p...=&httplinks=on The CD32 one. ( /TheZone/files/_2014/Alley Cat CD32 [Alley Cat on the CD32].zip ) A direkt Link dosent work for some reason. But i tweaked a few things to run it more smoothly (Changed the Emulator version & tweaked some settings) Made a new Script so that it runs easily from HD and got rid of the fat that it did not need. Super happy how it turned out Last edited by Torti-the-Smurf; 09 October 2021 at 22:53. Reason: Found a Typo |
