Hi all, I've designed a custom ventilated cover for the Amiga 1200. Fits the existing commodore casing and style of the underside vents established by the original Amiga design.

Edit: I now have several versions proven working and in operation with different machine configurations.

Check out the standard model for general use - I use one of these myself with my ACA1232, The standard version should work just fine with any ACA or most other cards, takes up less space inside your amiga so should fit better than the original with some difficult cards.

I really very much like the grill design - looks great But the price is not really what I expected I'm pretty sure if you could lower it substantially, you would sell quite a few of them!

@amigasith, I've looked into producing such items in the past, tooling is very expensive, even getting the produced in the far east you need to order massive amounts to bring the price down anywhere near reasonable and have to pay tooling costs up front.

Hobbyist items like this will always carry a premium.

Ah, Amigasith! I wondered if one had been ordered by you, I guess not I appreciate your perspective, It depends how you look at it - Amiga collectors might spend more on a boxed game or many times more on a piece of hardware.

This isn't going to be your first Amiga related purchase, it is an item for a person who has everything.... or at least a decent accelerated 1200 wedge.

I don't have a huge amount of control over the costs, just a small markup, and yes I'd have to sell a lot of these - It's nearly all production cost. The panel takes up a fair amount of machine space not really much I can do about that... If i could find a way to make it more efficient I would, but mainly its just the geometry of the panel.

BTW 3d printing works out better if you're in the US, The price in Euro includes printing, cleaning, handling, shipping and 20% VAT, so the list price does at least cover everything to get it to your door whichever side of the Atlantic you reside.

@Fitzsteve, thanks for the support! I have a couple more A1200 items available, you're right about mass production, for tooling costs, I don't think you'd ever make that investment back.

Riempie, The DVI cover is designed to support the DVI connector for the CR, but if you have a different connector I'd be happy to make a different version to support any device, as long as it can fit within the plate.

What exactly do you need from me if I'd like a neat solution for the Indy MK2.

Maybe there isn't enough space because I see the connector is seated all to the left (1st picture).

Those pics are pretty good here's a version for the CR, based on where it appears to be in the case, thickness of the PCB and dimensions of the connector, i think this is pretty close!

Hmm... okay, got you. I was under the impression that 3D printing is much less cost intensive nowadays, but it seems I didn't really take into account all the surrounding factors. You never stop learning

The next time I'm in the mood to treat myself, this nice little beauty is definitely in a top position on my wishlist Keep up your great work

Thanks, it might have been a little cheaper until shapeways changed its price policy, but really its still pretty cheap compared to where it was - I have worked in 3d print for 10 years this year.

@Rikbliz, thats great - there probably is only a fairly low cost of raw materials in most prints, and most products in general. Presumably you mean you made one with your own extruder / FDM type printer? If so, cool!

As you know, the shapeways prints are made using SLS, a technology which isn't in the home yet.

And that DVI cover is fine I'm sure, but you can't secure it to the case like mine. The PPC cover from thingiverse is really interesting, does that fix cover all the problem accelerators?

Yeah thats a real nice, very expensive machine that is way beyond most peoples reach.

Suddenly £20 doesn't seem so bad, I assume unless you work in the industry its not your personal machine, but if you have access to a beast like thats awesome, do you still?

I do a lot of work with product design and rapid prototyping on commission.
