so now i have an a600 running 020@14mhz, 2mb chip ram, aga, ks 3.0, 4gb hdd (will go cf when adapter comes), dvd/rom next job is upgrade card zetr0 has some ideas on this just waiting to see what comes up and what i can fit in 030 be nice thanks for looking james any one wants any info on this just post and i will help |

Really neat looking machine! Doesn't it get a bit too warm with the DVD (running) and the HD crammed up in there?
I never used the PCMCIA myself but I think I've read the interface is only 16-bit so I have to ask, how does a RAM expansion there appear in the system and how does it perform? As slow or fast RAM or as a storage device? |

Outstanding work you did there mate! Congratulations! Zetr0 will be thrilled
![]() SRAM PCMCIA Memory card acts as Fast RAM but can act also as a Storage device via PrepCard utility. AFAIK it's slower than accelerator Fast RAM but since I have no experience I can't be sure of that. I'm looking forward for the next exciting 030 if you ever do it! I thought of it in the past by doing reversed connector and attaching one via ribbon cable but the case+keyboard won't fit it (at least I guess so). Well done my friend |

@jimbob005
indeed... I am amazed at this, more so you had the dedication to see this all the way through, I have some ideas on helping you to get an accelerator in there, i have some sketched on paper, I shall draw them up on the computer a bit later today (Sunday) for you. @all Oh yes... I have seen this ![]() Ooo a word to mention, about the SRAM memory addition to an A1200, this will actually slow the machine down around 10% |

Thats superb Jimbob, I remember speaking to you on msn about it, man its funny comming from PCs and knowing a fair bit(about PCs) and seeing what you people are up to and lets be honest setting up PC mobos compared to amigas is childsplay , especially considering the PC boards well most modern ones dont need jumpers altered.
In a little while once I am more familiar with the amiga Im going to start getting some tech books on it , but I could never see myself managing to mod the things in the way you have, just dont know enough about electronics but seriously seeing projects like this makes me want to learn electronics to some degree at some point. (As mentioned on msn Im going through the indispensable PC hardware book and the only things I can say Im kinda lost at thus far is the electronics terminology) Anyway great job Im glad it turned out alright! in fact very dam well Nice Going ![]() ![]() |

That's beautiful!
Wish I had the balls to cut a mobo like that! What did you use to make the cut? |

Ahhh, now there's some fine butchering!
Great work old chap. Hmmm, getting an accelerator in there could be fun. I guess one way would be to make up an adapter with two sockets & some ribbon cable in between... ...I wonder how far you can stretch expansion port signals before instability creeps in... ...also; where to get the edge connector sockets?? I wonder if something like this: ![]() Might be adapted for the job http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=8 There's LinITX.com too for other such options. |
