Commodore64 SDcard gaming and Mail Order Monsters
Hi chaps,
When I was at the retro event in Stoke 2009 i saw a chap running C64 games from a device with a SD in it in the cartridge port of the C64. Does anybody know what this is called and where I can get it from. I tried to load up my cassettes of Mail Order Monsters over xmass but the died a horrible screechy stretchy death. I loooooved this game and sure I was playing it circa xmass day 1984 [ Show youtube player ] cheers steve |

There are several devices with SD card support. MMC64, MMC Replay, 1541 Ultimate etc.

btw: If you want a full floppy replacement you have to wait for the Chameleon, or just use the 1541 Ultimate. The MMC64 and MMC Replay plays only single part files via SD card. But it's pretty good to write D64 images back to original disks. |

if you're gonna play single file games, go for something like SD2IEC, which is far more sensible. |

Ripped off? Bah, yes maybe very expensive. But you get this. The turbo function speeds the C64 to (aimed) 8Mhz.

1541U is the only one of those worth buying. The Chameleon doesn't count, since it still isn't available.

1541U is cool - got one of the ethernet ones myself and got one of the new versions of the cart on order.
If the Chameleon does ever come out though it looks to have some cool features so I hope it does... |

Jens starts the Chameleon tests in March, if everything goes well. The 1541 Ultimate II (with a cool case) should be available soon enough too.

I'm guessing the Chameleon has taken a long time because it does so much.. It intercepts the bus and emulates the 6510 and VIC chips in sync with the actual computer. Not so trivial to get right.
Basically it's half a C-64 on an FPGA that's plugged into a real C-64. ;-) |

Yes, the Chameleon works as a stand alone version too. But no Joyport, i guess you have to use the CDTV remote then.
And for the late release: He had priorities to his more profitable products. Everybody needs money. |

The accelerator and REU capability might give some nice possibilities for demos on the C64 - hopefully a bit like the equivalent of a 1260 in your A1200. \o/

Elite, Starglider or Mercenary in 8MHz is probably very cool. Maybe even too fast.

Would be *really* cool if there could be blitter functionality added - a bit like as per what's available in the C64-DTV.
Even more demo possibilities. |
