WHD Load vs. .adf

hi, what exactly is the difference between whd-load and .adf files ?

i can get .adf files to work with WINUAE (and of course other progs as well)

what prog do i need to run whd-load files and what do i have to do to make them work ?

You need WHDLoad to run game files with WHDLoad.

Sometimes the guy writing the installer for a game will significantly alter it so that it can no longer operate without WHDLoad, for instance, ripping a disk format to be real files, as the original game was never coded to load like that, you would need WHDLoad.

KG - he said he -can- get ADFs to work!

you need a working HD setup for winuae... using say for example Classic WB as your System Boot disk.

then you need to unpack the whdload games from www.guildserver.co.uk/kgwhd or www.whdownload.com and place them in a games HD (i set this up as a windows folder - mounted as GAMES: in winuae)

then boot the system disk, and in Workbench got the Games: drive and click&play

And for emulator users they work great with GameBase Amiga as well and you don't have to mess around with setting up harddrives or workbench.

That's true, Belg. But WHDRun need some updates, all tooltypes should be configurable. Then i would give it a full recommendation.

Well it's true the tooltypes aren't displayed yet, but you can the custom tooltypes as you please, and as for ones like novbrmove etc, well that's for compatibility and seeing as they work there's no need to use those ones.

And uae-configuration, is it working via tooltypes too? Never tried it so far.

Edit: Looks like you can use one special tooltype & five Custom1-5 tooltypes.

Thanks guys. I'll try those links.

My old A500 is broken though, so I can't use WHD unless I buy a new one, right?

You can use it in UAE. WHDLoad won't work on an unexpanded A500 though. Look at www.whdload.de for the system requirements.

yes and no.... i think winuae is what is being referred to here... but i use whdload on PSPUAE , which is a port of e-uae (just to confuse things further) - and dont see any reason why any other build of e-uae shouldnt be able to use whdload.

edit: and i guess any other UAE variant

WinUAE is the Windows version of UAE. UAE exists for many platforms.
