Lightbulb Thoughts about intro/demo-engines?

Hi,

Many people are out for music modules, but yet I have not seen the idea to collect demo-effects without the need of watching certain demos through. Effects should be available directly and combinable to user-defined sequences. Therefore I spent some time thinking about the doability of a demo-engine with the following features, while that engine provides a framework but not the actual effects themselves:
  • Divide the display vertically in one or more independent areas and this for each resource, i.e. Gfx, Copper, Sprites.
  • One area of a Gfx-effect for example may partially or totally overlap with sprites or copper areas but not with Gfx itself.
  • One effect may occupy more resources in its area, e. g. Copper and Gfx, so that there may not be other Gfx in that area and no other Copper.
  • Maybe it is possible to divide Gfx into playfields, so that for example two independent effects can share a dualplayfield.
  • Effects are plugins, must share the same interface.
Would this be possible?
Maybe there are better ideas.

By the sounds of it the effects would have to be custom made for the engine itself.

Sounds like an interesting idea.

Yes, they would have to. But maybe some can be adapted like the custom deliplayer modules.

I would like to discuss the concept to have a theory improved and backed up by some other peoples thoughts.

Well, let's put it this way, there's a reason nobody has done something like this yet
