FAT95 Installation
Hi everyone! so far ive been trying to get my PCMCIA --> CF Adaptor working in my 1200 with little sucess! Prepcard reports a silicon image disk in there and ive installed cfd and fat95.... however it doesnt show up any drives mounted for my CF card. Im wondering if i have installed fat95 incorrectly? is there more to it than double clicking the install fat95 icon?

double clicking the fat95 icon is enough. did you install cfd properly ? and mounted the cf device ? also keep in mind that you should format your cf card at windows side with fat16.

when you say mounted the cf device do you mean double clicking on the CF0 Device like the readme says? or do you need to put a mount command or something into your startup sequence?

no, double clicking is enough ... and if you place it in devs:dosdrivers it will be automatically mounted next boot.

all i did was copy compactflash.device to DEVS: and installed fat95 by double clicking on the installer... i know the PCMCIA port is ok cause i use a network card with it to.

You have to create a DosDriver for your CF card. Fat95 comes with very detailed instcuctions in different languages, so just RTFM.

cfd needs some other stuff in C: and devs:. it's not just compactflash.device. though it should have warned you when you're mounting the device that some stuff is missing.

Make sure you've got the following:
compactflash.device in DEVS: fat95 in L: CF0 in DEVS:DOSDrivers/ (if you want to mount it automatically each boot) or SYS:Storage/DOSDrivers/ (if you want to do it manually by clicking on the icon or typing 'mount CF0:' in a shell) If this fails, have a look at CardReset and CardPatch (there's a bug in the way A1200s handle the PCMCIA port, these proggies try to remedy that) Both should go in your startup-sequence. That's it. Looks complicated but trust me, it's all pretty straightforward. |

compactflash.device already does a cardreset, at least I remember reading so in the docs. It's mainly needed for network cards.

Yep, that's it. Just copy the fat95 file to the L directory in Workbench.
And no worries, we were all new once |

you may need to select (Show all Files) from the menu.
Open the Work bench directory. Right mouse click, and select Window >> Icon >> Show All Files the director L should appear. as well as C and a couple of others. you could use the CLI thats as easy when you know how. |

Yes. As a rule, if any programs come with C, Libs, L directories etc then you copy their contents to the equivalent directories on your Workbench.
