WiFi SD/IDE on A600/A1200

Hi mates,
I have (from many years and very satisfied) in my A600HD a CF-IDE adapter like this one:
https://www.ebay.it/itm/2-5-Zoll-IDE...0AAOSwzvpa2cef

I always used it with two low-capacity CFs I have (16MB and 256MB).
Sooner or later I would like to use a CF-SD adapter like this one:
https://www.ebay.it/itm/WiFi-SDHC-SD...=item4db39b5c3

(I actually use a similar one in my Nikon D70 camera, which only have a CF slot. The one I have is Type II, though. I suppose now they improved the project and can offer Type I adapters)

I suppose that a similar adapter could allow me to use high capacity SDs (8 GB, for example), overcoming an eventual CF size limit?

However, the reason I wrote this post is:
could I use a WiFi SD (I know they existed for the Nikon cameras), so that I could leave the A600 case permanently closed and remotely access the A600 SD/HDD from the nearby Windows PC via WiFi connection?
This would allow me not to extract the CF/SD from the A600 every time I have/want to update it.
Could it be possible?

EDIT:
I know I can (and I do, actually) use the PCMCIA port (via a PCMCIA-CF adapter I have) to transfer files to/from the internal CF/SD, but a WiFi connection with the PC would be much more practical...

EDIT #2:
Wait!
I didn't notice that those new Type I CF/SD adapters have a built-in WiFi function!
So, using one of those, I don't even need a WiFi SD. I can use a regular one.
Did somebody use/test one of those adapters?
They are cheap, too .

Interesting
Mrs Beanbag was wondering if writing is possible over WiFi too. I didn't think about that possible issue... I hope it's possible .

Wow, he succeeded!
Those FlashAir cards are VERY expensive, though... :
https://www.ebay.it/sch/i.html?_from...ir+sd&_sacat=0

Also, the procedure he followed is not simple at all... he did a great job preparing the card.

I'm wondering if the adapters I linked in the first post, which are very cheap, allow reading and writing over Wi-Fi... and if the whole preparing procedure can be simpler than the one used by Thomas Hagen Johansen for his CD32.

Correction , they don't have built-in WiFi capability; it would seem that they are "designed for WiFi SD cards".

Maybe you can try something like this?

It could work, better than the other solutions...
A little pricey. Maybe somebody tested it inside an Amiga already?

What about this!?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SD-TF-To-....m46890.l49292

Potentially this acts as a separate wifi interface and the micro sd card can be formatted to FAT filesystem so there may be a workaround I suspect...

Or how about CF-to-SD adapter?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074S7XX97...d_i=B074S7XX97

Could be used with A600/A1200 PCMCIA port adapter with SD-WiFi card.
Leave the card as FAT, no need to repartition the card.

Personally I don't have experience with WiFi SD cards.

The price is good .
I wonder if it's also possible to write (not only read) to the micro SD over WiFi... it would seem so but it's not really specified...
Btw, what the heck does 'Supports "with the beat-per-view" feature.' mean?

Yes, I was also considering one of those, as I wrote in the first post. I thought they had a built-in WiFi capability but no, they require a WiFi SD card.

I don't understand if all the WiFi adapters we are considering (WiFi SD, WiFi SD--microSD, WiFi CF--microSD etc.) require necessarily an Android/iOS app or can be directly viewed/accessed by a PC (with WiFi interface).

I don't understand why it is camera specific? If the WiFi was independent of the camera then it shouldn't matter. Unless the state of sd card when connected means it is locked for external access.

A lot of them work by offering a web interface you can use to pull off or push files to.

I don't see why it shouldn't work in an Amiga.

Unless they require some weird proprietary app - but why would they go into such trouble for such a cheap product? I suspect that the web approach is the most cost-effective for the makers.

Any updates on this? I'm intrigued to know if this would be viable option.

Me too .
I hoped someone already tested one of those solutions.
I wouldn't want to buy one and then discover it doesn't work (these are difficult times...).

The main issue is the file system. The WIFI part of the card allows access to the files on the card, not to the card itself. This means the card must have an MBR partition table and a FAT partition, otherwise it is not recognised.

You can make it Amiga-bootable using the Boot95 program which comes with FAT95. But Amiga-specifig file attributes won't be stored, making it a bit limited as an every-day boot disk for an Amiga.

Note I didn't test it on the IDE bus but I used an USB card reader connected to a Deneb controller. The usual pickyness of the IDE controller might still interfere.

Edit: screenshot attached. This is how it looks like in a browser.

Hi thomas.
So in your opinion there isn't a card (or an adapter + card), between the different ones available, which could allow complete raw writing via WiFi? (using one of the many SD backup/restore utilities for the PC/Windows)
For example when it's necessary to prepare a SD as Amiga HDD from scratch using the Amiga tools in an emulated Amiga (WinUAE).
Accessing to file level would be a nice start, but the possibility to completely erase it (and rewrite) from the PC via WiFi would be fantastic.

EDIT: which version did you test?

My take on @thomas post was that you CAN access the files but not like file explorer but rather through its user interface for the card with its proprietary app. This means that provided the card as correct MBR and partition infrastructure it should work. FAT95 allows it to have this as that is essentially Windows compatible filesystem.

Ok .

What's still not clear is if one of the 3-4 different types on the market allow to:
- access SD files not only in read mode but also add/rewrite files from the PC (could look like a stupid doubt but those adapters/SD were made for camera use primarily, so for file/photos reading)
- completely erase the SD card and rewrite it (from the PC) using an image previously done (with a different OS, for example)

I found out about this card, FYSETC SD-WIFI: https://www.fysetc.com/products/fyse...37578391027887

I ordered it from Ebay today. I will report back when I get it. Let see if it works.
