NEED: Picasso II+ Manual

Hello there my fellow forum chummies,

I need to get either an original english manual or digital download for the Picasso II+ graphics card.

One of the benefits of this card is its *AUTO* pass though feature, although its only at frquency you input it at, its automatic (great!) but which VGA connector is it?

I would also like to have this manual in my collection too

@zetr0

I have a fully boxed Picasso II with original Manual which I need to scan & upload at some point

Having looked at the BBoAH I can see the + version is slightly different.

On the original card the Input is the Bottom VGA connector and the top the Output.

However the VGA Output on the original Picasso II has a strange feature which can cause problems if used with a TFT / LCD monitor.

As you are aware Pin 9 on CRT VGA monitors is usually left unconnected and the Picasso II outputs +5V on pin 9, this can cause a short circuit usually the burning of the 10K resistor on the board which supplies the voltage (straight from the ZII Bus I may add)
Therfore removal of this resistor is necessary to ensure correct operation without magic smoke escaping.

Now regarding the Picasso II+, I would recomend plugging it in unconnected and using a DVM to check Pin 9 voltages on both connectors, If one has +5V then that is your output connector then trace back along the circuit and remove the resistor supplying the voltage.

It is possible that the II+ has been designed differently to disable +5V on pin 9 but simple testing will prove either way.

You know where I am If you want to talk about it

Regards
TC

I'd say more than slightly, it was moderately redesigned. New PCB, different RAM etc.

@Keropi

I have indeed!!!!

alas the GVP GeForce 040 is not working with the A1200, BUuuUUut i recently scored a VXL*030@40 on ebay for £33 inc postage.... its here in my living room looking all pretty and waiting for a friday-night bit of hackery!!!!

I was just going to leave it as a 68k chip but alas the Picasso needs an 020 to have the software installed LOL!

Once I have the GVP GeForce 040 up an running the VXL*30 will go in my A500 that has a GVP A500 HC8+ (yes tempted with Indivsion ECS we shall see )

Also in there is a GVP Impact Series 2 with 8MB 24bit fast and the Picasso II+ there will be LOTS of hardware pr0n this week!!!

I am also going to setup an install in there (with Video swicher) a P3 1GHZ 1GBRam PICMG SBC (32MB Graphics / lan / usb / ac97/ 40GB HDD) but that might be over the weekend IF i get some time

Gonna have Siamese installed too... will have the PC XP/Nix tempted with sticking Aros or Amithalon (theres a patch for penty's)

I am really proud of this little A2000, A LOT of people have helped and donated components for it, such like the A2000 from G-H, Picasso II from a certain PPC Powered Spirte, the GVP Combi 040 from a can of coze and FDD's from McVenco/r0jaws/TheCorfiot, ROM etc.. truely amazing!!!!

I dont think that theres any way I could sell this machine! its more about the poeple that helped build, inspire and dontate to get it up and running... It than than just the sum of its components, its all the hands that have helped and that is worth to me atleast more than $$$$$$$

You can get all the manuals for all Picasso products from the creator's website EXCEPT this one

http://www.sophisticated-development.de/

Tobias "Mastatabs" Seiler is quiet talkative, perhaps he'll send it you if you mail him? He's also quite active on A.org (although not as much lately).

He sent me his Amiga Hardware Reference Manual 3rd Edition a few years back

@rogerio

Its installed my friend the GVP is set to 6MB as the Picasso uses 2MB

all fires up waiting for me to install the gfx card, alas the software requires an 020 or better =(

I must admit I am really excited on installing the VXL*30 this Friday

That way she will have 2MB CHIP / 6MB FAST / 2MB Graphics and an 030@40 to chug some games and apps

As far as I remember my last name is still Seiler

Well, hmm. I need to to have a look through my Amiga stuff. Its quite possible a PostScript version of the manual is flying around somewhere. But that needs a bit of time. I'll put it on my ToDo list.
