Kickstart 3.1 quick boot
Any way to make kickstart 3.1 boot as quickly as 3.0? I am using WinUAE. I understand this is to do with waiting for IDE HD spinup or something. Thanks.

Which Amiga is it? A3000/A4000 have a tweakable NVRAM setting you can adjust.
You used to be able to buy dummy IDE devices for A600/A1200 if you weren't using the IDE controller. If you have an accelerator with MAPROM you can use Blizkick to patch scsi.device and change the timeout (after cold boot) |

Adding a Hard drive or changing chipset to custom appear to have no impact sadly..

"IDE killer" is automatically enabled if nothing is connected to IDE.
Are you sure the delay is not caused by something in your startup-sequence? Also make sure your config matches KS ROM version (A1200 vs A4000 KS ROM is the important difference) |

I thought you were right. But while looking for a solution to this I found this post :

It is true, the A4000 has a similar battmem as the A3000, but there are no useful A4000 battmem settings, and no-one will read them, as far as I understand.

The reason for this A3000 to A4000 functional difference is in the scsi.device. The A3000 scsi.device uses the battmem for Synchronous and SCSI timeout options. But the A4000 scsi.device has no use for these options.
EDIT: I forgot to mention SCSI LUN options too. Last edited by SpeedGeek; 22 May 2021 at 20:43. |

Yep. All of the known battmem bits are for SCSI. :-) Of course these things could be repurposed in an A4000 for stuff like DBLPAL on startup and something like this.
