If you are just going to play games get a RAM board upgrade maybe - 8MB ideally - you could get an 030 (Blizzard is best in my opinion) but it's not essential. What you have on order will keep you busy for a while!

I have seen some blizzard boards but they are just silly prices.

You got a link to the board you would get/recommend so I can check it out, consider cost etc

The one I was considering is this

I loved my Amiga back in day and have played my fave games on emulator on and off over years but sadly I have neglected my Amiga 1200 for 15+ years as it's mostly been in storage in the loft (The attic for the yanks).

I have recently had the urge to dig her out of retirement, give her a clean, replace caps and upgrade her a bit.

I currently have on order..
  • 4GB CF Card/IDE Adapter (Will be installing ClassicWB and WHDLoad games)
  • Amiga RGB Scart Cable (Got this for LCD TV or monitor but have since ordered CRT Monitor)
  • Isopropyl Alcohol Wipes (Using these to give keyboard PCB a good clean)
  • 12% Peroxide Creme (For getting rid/reducing yellow on casing/keys)
  • USB to Amiga Mouse Adapter (So I can use my optical mouse)
  • NEC MultiSync FE770 17" CRT FLAT SCREEN (Going to give this a go for retro gaming)
  • PSX Gamepad to Amiga adapter
  • Gotek Floppy Emulator (For the non-WHDLoad games. I also plan to swap this for a HxC drive emulator in future)
  • Floppy IDE Extension cable (To use the drive emulator externally)

I'm also hoping to get an accelerator card soon as well for more WHDLoad/Game compatibility and to also make it overall faster

Does anybody have any help/advice/recommendations for a newbie? Maybe something you would change, better alternative or additional bits for a gamer?
Dont use plain peroxide, look up retrobright, its peroxide with an oxy activator and uses uv as a catalyst... Unless you meant retrobright by peroxide creme.

I've seen a few videos that just simply use Peroxide Creme nothing added and then use a UV light or Sun and they came out pretty well.

That may just bleach it and may not specifically reverse the bromine reaction, more likely to make the surface mottled or eat the plastic.

BBlonde peroxide creme works fine, even merlin who was one of the people who started retrobrite says its fine. Even retrobrite with oxy isnt permanent as it only works on the top.. if its badly yellowed it will yellow again.. although another application will fix it, and it will yellow less after every application as it uses up the flame retardant that causes the yellowing.

Indeed. retr0brite is just about same thing as the perocxide creme products. Seen plenty of videos and people just using creme and sun and getting same results as people using retr0brite.

I'll be giving my system a once over in next few days, It doesnt look to bad tbh, mainly the keys. Will be interesting to compare the before/after pics though

Anyway back on topic...

Not bought today but on order..

I forgot to write about my 1200 I got a few months ago.

It's had around an hours use (lifetime!). Have only powered it on once - she's a keeper although I hate seeing hardware unused. I'm quite happy with emulation at the minute so more collection than anything

I purchased another A2000HD this week. Oddly enough the battery hasn't leaked at all but the power supply fan needed lubed to spin (very dusty possibly from a smoker). KS 1.3, an A2090 MFM/SCSI card (never seen one before with the MFM drive), 8MB RAM board with only 2MB in chips installed, Magni 4004 interface card and encoder card (which initially caught my attention).

Should be getting an A1000 sometime soon, which would pretty much complete my Amiga desktop collection (A500, A1000, A1200, A2000, A3000, A4000).

Seasonic 520W fanless modular platinum power supply for my A4000T.

Working perfect at the moment (although using a 3630 at the moment instead of CyberstormPPC which is going to be sent to Stachu on Monday)
