force global floppy speed

Is, their anyway to globally specify 'floppy speed'?

Custom config appears to ignore any floppy speed related lines.

I want all of my games to use floppy_speed = warp but as I use gamebase and oagd I really don't want to have to specify floppy speed in individual configs for every game.

Did you try to use Host.fs-uae or Default.fs-uae? You can read more about common configuration here.

Do you mean the Floppy Speed = Turbo or the Warp Mode (emulation speedup with a toggle key)?

You can set this option in the Launcher GUI. In the latest 2.3.8dev version you find it in Preferences -> Advanced settings.

uae_floppy_speed=0

Hi, I mean actual floppy speed = warp not the emulation speed.

I can add floppy_drive_speed = warp to individual game configs but can't find a way to set it as a global command that affects all configs.

Actually it's called "Turbo" in the WinUAE GUI and the config line is floppy_speed=0. For FS-UAE you need to put "uae_" in front. So uae_floppy_speed=0 is correct. Just tried it.

Hi, that seems to work fine, Thank you

PS: So what's the difference between warp and turbo then?

I have always used warp with my game configs to massively increase the speed of the loading times in FS-UAE, Is turbo (0) faster or just work in a different way?

I have no clue what you mean. There is no "warp" floppy speed, only 100-800% and Turbo = floppy_speed 0-4. Though you can set a Warp toggle key to fast-forward loading times/intros.

Evidently their IS a warp floppy speed in FS-UAE.

floppy_drive_speed = warp greatly increases the floppy speed (not the emulation speed).

Listening to the sound of the floppy loading I'd say it's very close to turbo, Or probably the same.

Sorry, can only find this in the FS-UAE docs.

Quote:
floppy_drive_speed

Default value: 100
Example: floppy_drive_speed = 800 Set the speed of the emulated floppy drives, in percent. The default is 100. For example, you can specify 800 to get an 8x increase in speed. Use 0 to specify turbo mode. Turbo mode means that all floppy operations complete immediately.
The only supported value is 100. Other speeds may or may not work with your games. The faster the emulated floppy drive speed, the less likely it is to work with (some) games.
So 0 = Turbo and the only other valid value is 100 at the moment. Higher like 200, 400, 800 can break the compatibility just like in WinUAE.

floppy_drive_speed = warp in an individual game config has exactly the same affect as uae_floppy_speed=0.

The only difference I can see is that floppy_drive_speed = warp is not accepted as a global command but uae_floppy_speed=0 is.

Seems true for an individual config. It's a bit strange that Frode named it warp and not turbo. Anyway, it works global now. Case closed.

floppy_drive_speed = warp and floppy_drive_speed = turbo seem to be the same thing when used in an individual config.

Anyway thanks for your help

I didn't...

and same as floppy_drive_speed = 0.. the reason is because the option value is interpreted as a number, and specifically because the libc function atoi is used, an invalid number gets interpreted as 0. So you can currently write "warp" or "worm" and it is the same as if you wrote 0. No guarantees that this will continue to work. The official way to enable turbo mode is floppy_drive_speed = 0 as mentioned in the docs!

This is true. Options which are known to FS-UAE Launcher and which affects the Amiga emulation are currently not allowed in advanced settings for misc. reasons. uae_* options can be put there because they are not known to launcher, but still passed on to FS-UAE. Use with caution, may break some games. Make sure to mention it if you report a bug and you have used uae_* overrides (or even better, test without )!

LOL not exactly for nothing, We both learned something new (though not necessarily useful).

Thanks for clarifying Frode

If one day you actually want to use words instead of numbers, here is a good list of names that could be used for the slowest speed
