Im not too bothered i probably will never see my original A500 or CD32 again, its more the songs and artwork i created and lost when i sold them.
I.e the hours in put on DPIII, making animations and pictures, one picture i copied the title screen from Sonic on the Megadrive pixel by pixel from a magazine just so i could fool my mate i had Sonic on the Amiga! Patience what happens to it when you grow up!? |

I'm the opposite. Luckily I somehow saved my MacPaint and Deluxe Paint artwork and still have them as BMPs. Thank you for reminding me. One that I lost was found as it was published in Advanced Computer Entertainment magazine But I'd love to have the old computers back. I guess you always want what you can't have huh...

Well, I think the most important thing here is being happy with your actual computer. Whatever it has been with you for decades or not is irrelevant because, in the end, if you don´t enjoy it, the "magic" is gone.
Nowadays I own a Commodore 64 and Atari Lynx from my childhood days accompanied with dozens, maybe hundreds of original stuff like games and magazines. They are not for sale and never will be. But, on the other hand, I bought an Amiga 1200 almost a year ago and it will be my computer forever. Why? Because it makes me very very happy and full of illusion. Just like many years ago. |

Kind of relevant to this thread is that I managed to restore some 43 old ABackup floppies from 22 years ago. So although I don't have my old A500+ itself, I do have another one, and it now has my old files back on its (CF Card) hard disk. It's been a very nostalgic 2 days I can tell you!
I've written about it here, including how I found in the files the advert for selling the A500+ itself: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...14#post1031614 Enjoy. |

Still got both my old Amigas (A500 and A1200), bvoth working when last tried. Also still got my old Spectrum +2 but the tape deck is knackered (never quite the same, despite a repair, after my brother spilled pineapple juice in it.....)

I've heard of Apple, BlackBerry, Apricot, but never Pineapple. No wonder it didn't work.

If he'd spilled Apple in it, it would have looked snazzier but been no more powerful and cost twice as much. If he'd spilled BlackBerry it would have a lousy keyboard and limited software.

I Still have my original C128 and A600, but I am sad/upset that my cousins decided to throw or give away their C128D setup. They had a massive system going on with a non DCR 128D, 1751 REU and even a 1581 drive! When I remember they gave it to someone else and not me, I wanna cry

For me, tbh, it's not much about using my old machine or even recreating childhood memories, but rather keep doing stuff that I'm enjoying. I was enjoying playing swos and slamtilt back then , I'm still enjoying it now. My taste hasn't changed. It has grown to include other thing, more modern things, if you will, but I still find Turrican 2 to be as wonderful as it was back then and the same goes for a well done steak! If only I had more spare time for gaming....

He he, this whole topic reminds me a poll in today's local "newspaper".
The question is: are you satisfied with your life? Y / N |

I still got many of my childhood computers, but I am so sad that their condition is getting worse all the time. And I keep on losing original software disks like I recently lost my original Kick Off 2, it was destroyed sadly.
My A4000T has bad scratches to it and is yellow all over, my A500 has bad scratches, my A1200 has cracks and so on. Some damages occured due to moving to a new home, for example. Everything is getting worse all the time, I can´t preserve it, like sand running through my fingers. I am jealous, when I look around here and all those fellow Amigans show their snow white beauties and all that I got is rotten yellow remains of better days. |

Zak, you sound like a prime candidate for one of the new A1200 cases that will be available soon.

I don´t think I could change my A1200 because of that "it wouldn´t be my original anymore"-thing. I do actually look for A4000T replacement cases, because I got a spare set of A4000T boards. I only would change my A1200 if the functionality would no longer be granted with the old case, but that didn´t yet happen.

Well that's cheered us all up lol ;-)
There's a lot of options for plastic repair and anti yellowing treatments out there. You're one of the lucky ones. But I understand how seeing it decaying can seem unlucky. Make it good once more! |
