Floppy disk Web browsing on 8MB Classic A1200

I have a network card (LINKSYS WPC11) which was in a bag of goodies for a £1 at the radio rally

I understand that if i install the prism2 drivers and then MUI38usr and AmiSSL I should be able to get some sort of browser working

Which one would work (If any) on my modest system?

If not, then could I at least use email or chat?

Just thought - what games would work online (eg Gloom, flight games, ff1gp games and even doom?)

WookieChat is good for IRC, SimpleMail and YAM are email clients that exist. I won't comment on how good or bad they are.

In general, classic 68k browsers are ancient and unusable on an 'EC020 CPU at 14 MHz for modern websites.

AWeb doesn't use MUI but rather uses the Reaction GUI that comes with AmigaOS 3.2, 3.5 and 3.9 (3.2 being a restart from 3.1.4). Don't expect HTML4 to be fully implemented, let alone HTML5. There is an earlier version of the GUI called ClassAct on the Aminet.net archives if you are using 3.1 or 3.0 AmigaOS.

IBrowse is better for an HTML4 browser but it requires MUI and might have a bigger memory footprint than AWeb.

Most newer browsers than that (such as NetSurf) require more than 8 MB Fast RAM.

If you are talking about a non accelerated (or 030 and below) Amiga, I wouldn't bother with SSL sites...
If you really need SSL, probably best to setup a proxy that does that for you on a PC.
I did that with WebOne for a while (still have it, but haven't checked it in ages).
I rarely use my 1200 for actual web browsing. Sometimes I will hit Aminet...
That said, FTP and SMB makes the network card REALLY worth having.

Forget about web browsing on classic Amigas.

What do you need to make a heck of a good use of your networked miggy is:

- Lubricator

- IMP3

and, as said earlier, SMB on your local network.

Fast Internet and database access speeds can be brought to the slowest of Amigas with ports and a stack and a server, like all other computers.

Back in the day I was browsing over dial-up on my 68000 A500 running ALynx (a text based browser) The web was a different thing back then.

IMP3 is asking for bsdsocket.library - but I can't find this anywhere - do you have a link for it?

First things first... you must have a TCP/IP stack up and running before anything else. Roadshow is my choice.
