Amiga Emulation Nation
Lets start here now, what can be said about this, ummm... well I've never been able to get anything from this site as I've never actually got onto any of the ftp's!! If only they sorted this problem out it would probably be the best Amiga adf site on the internet!! Please sort out your problems!! Does anybody agree with me? Zeewolf |

Grrrrr
I hate this site with a passion. I have known about it for years and have always wanted to get back onto the ftp site as I have only managed it once, about 14 months ago.
Godflesh constantly spams newsgroups and forums telling people to go to his site but you just can't get onto the ftps. It is the worst site possible because it promises so much and fails on all accounts. It could be a great site but, in reality, is a big pile...... |

I really love the new design of AEN, but it is a fact that the 4 FTP are always down ...
it's sad, improve your FTPs quality and become one excellent website ! (and spamming won't bring anything) |

Hmmm
I exchanged some emails with Godflesh and my first impression was: he's MEGALOMANIAC. Just a note: Impressing people with a nice layout is good. Now content must follow. I agree: this must work on both ways. And a question: How comes best rated sites on AmigaMos.com are those who provide the weaker design and weaker content ? I never believed there was a viable web-based site ranking system. Ben. |

That's an idea for you Mosmensk !
There should be another way to be in the top of amigamos than only pure spam-hit system ![]() maybe excellent websites should have one sort of multiplier coef in order to have more point than "normal" websites ... |

AEN.....
is really poor!!!! I never believe in the rating system anyway, it simply doesn't work!! Half of the ones at the top of the chart are purely shite!!! No offense intended!!! Theres just better sites out there!!!
There got to be a better way of ranking the sites without cheating, we allknow the bigger sites keep rating themselves to get themselves higher in the charts!! Please MosMensk sort it out before it's too late!! Zeewolf |

i'm trying....
Actually its not "possible" to cheat the ranking system....or so am i told.
I don't think anybody is really cheating. The problem is people taste for websites. Take "Real Amiga". (http://www.amiga-emu-world.de) He dosen't have a very fancy layout but he has some nice game descriptions. It seems to be what people want. Check out his visitors : http://de.nedstat.net/viewstat.asp?name=Amiga Most people only want games games games....its sad. The problem is that its impossible to make a topsite that only rank sites on content. That's why I used the voting system that uses the 1-10 system, instead of just some lame warez type topsite, where one click is one vote. I was hoping people would judge the sites before voting for them.. I want to help give good and pure Amiga sites the rank they deserve. I've talked to the script developers about this. They'll look into it. Now all we can do is wait.... MosMensk P.S. I hope i make sence...I have quite a nasty hangover ![]() |

Snap!!!
I've got a banging hangover too!!!
MosMensk I've been thinking about the ratings, is there any way of doing it so its only possible to vote once a week/month? Instead of hammering the votes every hour or so. This method will surely stop the hammering. Won't it? Zeewolf |

Re: Snap !!!
Even making votes monthly or weekly wouldn't change a thing. Vote tracking is based on IP adress, which make the ranking system unable to block dynamic IPs. ie: i connect, vote, disconnect. Or even simplier, I renew my IP adress thanks to DHCP. Don't even try, it's lost by advance. Ben. |

Hey all.
I have been thinking alot about the spamming/cheating problem on AmigaMOS.com. Here's what I wrote to the developers: "The main problem with topsites is that people spam to get more votes. I don't know much about programming, but wouldn't it be possible for the script to trace where the votes come from? Ex. : Let's say someone signs up on AmigaMOS.com. That persons site url could be : http://www.amigarules.com or something else. Let's say he's given the member number 123. Now the script knows that from member number 123, it shall only accept votes from http://www.amigarules.com." what do you all think? would that help? MosMensk |

I'm not sure this is the only solution...
what you could do is to give for all website one coefficient: = 1 for normal website > 1 for good / great website < 1 for bad / spamming website every time someone vote for one site, the coefficient will modify the number of point of this website. [ coef * [1-10]] + last point value = new point value. Just sort the website with this new point system and best website should be on the top. for the choose of the coef, we can discuss here of every website in order to choose it. |

This site sucks.
One problem with Amiga sites that really gets on me nerves is that the webmaster believes that if you put gigs of adf/dms files on there it will be popular. I think not. Quality is, as it always has been, better than quantity. AEN, despite being an above average looking web site, is utter shite. It isn't helped by Godflesh constantly plugging it. |

MosMensk, why don't you use cookies in dual with IP to limit the spamming/cheating ?
Ok, we could continue to "cheat", but it would be a little more difficult... |

This is the response i got from asking about an IP log:
"Visitors can usually disable cookies. IP logging is the best way. Sincerely, Yutung L. SiliconSoup.com LLC" |

Thanks...
The ftp's are slowly getting better..found new servers and more professional sysops. Thrills ftp has been up all the time.
Many people can't login because the ftp are full all the time. Don't blame me...I gues the ftp's are very populair. ...and I am not constanly spamming..if you don't like that..then get of my icq list or something. I am not a megalomaniac...but a more central place for UAE enthousiasts would be much better because people will get what they want sooner. I don't care if you all think that my site is shit...look at amigamos.com...seems that a lot of people dissagree with your opions. AEN has more to offer then just the ftp's....like the chatbox..which Amigamos seems to have too (looks very familiar by the way :-), the forum where you can ask for games you are looking for. AEN will get better..it's just takes some time... |

People can't be "forced" to vote...
If they like what they see/get..then most of the time they will vote.
anyways I updated my site and forum again..so go check it out. http://i.am/godflesh |
