SSD and 100% CPU

I recently installed an SSD in my A1200, and I noticed that when transferring files the CPU meter shows 0% CPU Free. I was wondering is this normal for SSD as I can`t remember if the same happened when I was using a CF card for a drive.

Based on the info supplied, we can only guess. Your SSD solution might be hanging on commands, which uses more CPU or it might be fast enough that the CPU gets the chance to feed it more data.

It's difficult to make a generalization about it being normal though. Try with RSCP and see what your throughput/cpu usage is there? If the throughput value is very high, then my guess is that the CPU usage is high because of that. The IDE bus in an A1200 is very stupid and the CPU has to do everything there.

I see, thanks for the info. What is RSCP though, is that a program?

Disk access via IDE on the A1200 always takes 100% or close, even if for short time, even with 68060. There is no DMA. It is the same with a SSD. There is not benefit of the SSD on the Amiga except silence, and i hope better lifespan than harddrive or CF. All my big Amiga are running SSD, only the 600 and 500Plus have CF enough for them.

RSCP is an old software available on Aminet which test speed and cpu usage with the A2091 SCSI as comparison.

I see, thank you guys, that makes more sense then. The main reason I installed the SSD as my CF had died suddenly and I wanted something more reliable. Thanks for the info about RSCP, I will give that a try.
