A500 memory expansions in CDTV

Hi,

as it seems Vesalia has sold out all it's CDTV memory expansions and they don't pop up on eBay that often I was wondering if there's any way of knowing which A500 memory expansions will work with the CDTV.

I suppose the trapdoor ones are ruled out as there's no trapdoor in the CDTV, but what's left then? Anything else one should be aware of when buying one?

you might want to buy directly from elbox BUT:

i bought one two months ago myself. it fits into the cpu socket, with the original cpu then fitted to the board, ontop. unfortunately elbox seems to have change the design which makes the card to high to fit in there with the lid closed. in other words: the lid will bulge when you close it, applying direct pressure on the mainboard via the cpu socket.

i was told that older expansion cards did fit, but i heard of a second new one that does not. i did not want to wait, and needed some more soldering practice, so i desoldered the socket on the card to solder the cpu in there directly. this should save me about 2-3 mm which might be enough. still not an option if you just want to buy it + the fact that one can expect a ready made expansion to fit without bulging the lid. and: i am not sure if i broke anything while desoldering the socket that was on there, quite an ugly thing to do...

but anyway... as long as no one does a new design, you have to go for the used bigram expansions by w.a.w. electronics when they pop up on epay.

Ah right, sorry. Good to know you can buy them directly from Elbox too although now I'm sure I want one anymore based on what mr. vince said.

So back to the topic, which A500 might do the job?

No-one will know if it suffers from the same problem as newer elbox CDTV memory cards (i.e. too tall).
