Metroidvanias on the Amiga

Hi guys !

I was wondering if anyone knew if the ol' 'miggy had any Metroidvania type games made for it. For those that don't know what a Medroidvania type game is it's games like Metroid and latter day Castlevania (Symphony of The Night onwards), further description here - http://gaming.wikia.com/wiki/Metroidvania

As far as I'm aware there doesn't seem to be any game featuring action heavy exploration gaining skills to progress you to previously unreachable locations. The nearest I could think of was Exile, though that was generally more puzzle based than action based (though is still a bloody ace game even though I've never been able to get anywhere in it !)

So anyone have any suggestions of games that match this game genre ?

Harlequin has the exploration but not the skills. Find switches to progress to new areas, non-linear, good platforming graphics and music, allows to save your game at any point, but it is pretty basic metroidvania fare.

I never liked Harlequin and I thought it was unnecessarily overrated. I also hate clowns, that didn't help :

I really can't think of a game that way. I wish someone would made a nice "new Castlevania" clone for the Amiga! Right now I am hooked to the first game of the Castlevania trilogy on DS, and I gotta say I love it (well, I also had circle of the Moon on GBA and that was awesome too).

I think maybe Cedric and the Lost Sceptre might qualify as Metroidvania-style: http://www.lemonamiga.com/games/details.php?id=653

Oh, and maybe Exile/Exile AGA: http://hol.abime.net/2890/screenshot

I'm sure there are others that come close.

I'm working on a game that might fit into this genre, it's an action-adventure platformer with exploration, branching story and slight role playing elements. It's still very much in the design stages though, but we've got a lot of stuff planned out for it already so I hope it'll be a really good game for Amiga.

I think the key element that makes a "Metroidvania" game is thet you unfold a map and you have to go back and forth between map spaces. Metroid doens't have much of that "RPG-like" leveling-up etc,

That's a pretty cool game, I would have loved to play this back in the day. Reminds me of Lionheart with the caves, and also Traps 'n' Treasures.

Lazycow is working on porting Powerglove, which I would consider a Metroidvania type game!

I had not heard about PowerGlove till you mentioned it. That would be great if it gets ported to the Amiga, it looks awesome!

In the mean time, here are a couple of Metroidvanias you can probably emulate fine via DosBOX, PC Task or what ever:

No it's a linear shoot em up with some exploration. But is inspired by NES Metroid.

part of the Metroidvania thing is also that you accumulate new powers/abilities which unlock other parts of the map (double jump suddenly lets you get into that high place etc)

Honestly i cant think of any Amiga platformers with the complexity and level of design as Castlevania :-(

Switchblade 2 is a bit inspired by Metroid/Castlevania.
