a600 floppy motor
HI
The motor that spins the floppy in my a600 doesnt seem to work - only the head moves. Any experts on flopy repair here with suggestions on how one would find the cause and fix it? |

Have you checked you have +12v, it could be that. Alternatively, I know some of these old floppy drives had surface mounted caps which fail, in particular the Sony models. There's usually a cap that is used by the rotation timing circuit - that cap could have died.

Hi.
Yes. +12v is there - I checked by connecting an A500 floppy to it and it works fine (but unfortunetly it is too big to fit the A600 case. The drive is not Sony, I think it is Panasonic (not at home now to check though). I tried getting the circuit off the board, but for that I would have to take apart the whole drive, which I am reluctant to do since I tend to break stuff ;-) I think amigakit might be the only way for this one. |
