Had one of these and I didn't like it. The raster was too visible so the pixels weren't beautiful, they look much better on the original Commodore one.

I am guessing also you are incredibly desperate for a monitor since you spammed the board with 3 posts all for different monitor requests in Marketplace

I threw two of those away, both went bang (flyback problem). I would avoid them like the plague... My two Commodore monitors still work fine (which is ironic as they are manufactured by Philips anyway!).

I disagree, I think it is a fine monitor. Basically it is the same as a 1084-S, but without seperate chroma/luma input and with a different tube, which looks little bit more shiny than a 1084 tube. Personally I like this monitor, but I may be one of few who think like this, it seems
I also have one for sale, but I am afraid shipping to Australia would cost much more than you would be willing to pay for it... |

I thought they were fine monitors too, but that was before they went bang! Anyway, I prefer the look of the 1084D and the white 1084DS.

You have a 1084-D, without stereo ?!?
I always thought the 'D' models were 'S' (stereo) only... I agree especially the solder joints at the connectors of the CM8833-II are of absolutely bad quality! The whole connector is designed like shit because the solder joints of the pins have to hold all the force when you connect or disconnect the RGB cable. |

I suggest you an Amiga Tech/Microvitec M1438S or M1538S.
You'll be able to use DBLPAL. |

I got it from www.vesalia.de about 3 years ago at € 50,00, but I think it was the last.
A friend of mine had luck to find one for € 75,00 in a local computer market here in Italy. I suggest you to try to do the same in your contry. |

or buy one from a German ebay user, the German postage costs are more than fair...
A 13KG package from Greece would cost you 87euro! the prices are insane! |

I searched for mine for months and I know I was lucky to find it. When this summer I saw another M1438S, since my friend was with me, I suggested him to take it immediately. He paid for it € 70,00 and now he is happy. I can only suggest you to look for it in the net (and carriage could be expensive) or try in local markets for pre-owned computer items in your country. |

The Philips monitor is just a glorified TV (as was the 1024xx).
You CAN use any regular television with an RGB capable SCART socket. Cut the end off the cable with the 9-pin (CGA) connector (after deducing which colour wire is which) and solder on a SCART plug. Pinouts are readily available on the web. http://pinouts.ru/data/CGA_pinout.shtml http://www.daveladd.demon.co.uk/pscart/scartpinout.html You need to wire HSync and VSync together and wire both to Composite Video(20) on the SCART socket. You may also have to wire them to Pin16 to indicate to the TV that the input is RGB Last edited by alexh; 29 July 2006 at 10:10. |
