AmigaOS 4.x versions differences
Not sure if this is the right area to ask, so feel free to move this.
So, there's AmigaOS 4.x for Classic, and then there's AmigaOS 4.x for specific hardware (ie. AmigaOne, Sam 460ex, Classic, Pegasos II). Is there really a difference between these? For instance, will an AmigaOS 4.x for Sam 460ex CD not work in an Amiga Classic with PPC? Do the discs for specific HW only differ in that they include specific drivers for said HW? Or is the AmigaOS compiled specifically for each HW? Has anyone compared the content of the CDs? Any other info is much appreciated. Thanks. |

The differences between the versions are all related to the hardware extraction layer - things like the bootloader, low-level memory control, I/O drivers etc. Above that level, all the components are much the same.
