The Computer World place which was next door to it is now a bargain basement shop... they were an upmarket classy sort of business.... who sold big box Amiga's and PeeCees with geeky salesmen!

What happened to yours?
Would that be Masons Leisure in Bolton by any chance?

Preferred Suda Micros on the other side of town tbh, but I remember going to the Wine bar in my old job to try and sell them a touch screen epos system.

Mine was in Berlin-Steglitz at the corner of Albrechtstrasse and Schuetzenstrasse (forgot the name) and according to Streetview it's an empty shop now. They fixed up my A 2000 and my monitors a couple of times. I haven't been in that corner in more than a decade though (understandable when you live far away from your home country ).

mine is still around, just moved down the street a bit.

All the stock control, invoicing etc was all done on an Amiga back then. The owner still has a couple of new A1200s in the back shop but he's not parting with them yet.

For some reason I find this kind of urban decay beautiful. Nature reclaiming what it once lost to civilization. Then again, old abandoned factories also tell stories of unemployment which is not as nice I suppose.

There were several Amiga/computer stores in Malmö back in the day. The one that sold Amiga stuff for the longest time after the demise of C= was "Mr. Data", which is now a fancy interior design store.

Some others were Landbergs - now a clothes store, Datalätt - don't know what's there now, Datorproffset (if I remember the name correctly) - now a textile shop, and Tradition - now a Subway franchise if I'm not wrong about the original location.

The only surviving computer stores from these days are JME Data (not originally in Malmö) and Josty Data, and they only sold PC stuff even back in the Amiga heydays.

For all I know that could be the current fashion in the Netherlands.

However, having just looked outside of the window the shop writing is all in English.

My "haunt" used to be a shop called Rodney's Books and Games in Barking, Essex. The front half of the shop was full to the brim of books and comics (rare ones too) then you had go down about five steps to the other half at the back. The holy grail of computer games ever since my ZX Spectrum days. I remember walking in one day and the owner (called Rodney, funny enough...) was blasting out John Farnham's You're the Voice via Amiga Sonix! I was impressed and after showing me the graphic capabilities and power of the Amiga 500 (major step up from ZX Speccy here remember) I don't think it was long after when I purchased a brand new Amiga 500. The shop isn't there now but relocated to Romford in Essex. Something about being "muscled out" by food outlets. Can't find any pics.

Another shop I used frequently for Amiga peripherals (disks, joysticks, cables, etc.) which also did repairs but the name completely escapes me was located in Upminster (Essex). Trouble is, I've looked on Google maps and can't trace where exactly it would had been. I remember having to go under a railway bridge and there was a parade of about six shops on the right - 'bout all I can remember.

In later years (when I upgraded to A1200) I started using the "big boys" - Game. And look what's happening to them as well now....

Great thread (or sad depending on what way you look at it).

I remember a couple of shops near me when I had an Amiga...

Data Deal in Paignton which started on Winner Street then a few years later moved closer to the town centre (although IIRC around this time they'd gone onto doing PC stuff).

In Torquay there was another computer shop, can't remember the name but it was on Castle Circus in Torquay. They gave a friend and me a demo of the CDTV when it first came out and then a few years later tried to sell me a Megadrive and Mega CD which were the 'next big thing'. I always remember thinking the guy was a bit of a pressure salesman.

In Newton Abbot there was the Games Cupboard. Now I can't remember exactly where it was, I thought it was nearer to the Austins department store in Newton Abbot but a friend of mine says it was on Union Street in Newton Abbot. I'm not sure, what I am glad of though is that I didn't dream it in my head as for a while no one knew what place I was talking about and I thought I was going nuts. I can't remember what happened to them but I remember the Games Cupboard being the best shop around for games, they always had a selection of machines on to test out the games (C64, Amiga, ST and I think NES and Master System too) and a friend of mine and I got free Thunderstrike T-shirts (which I wore a whole lot).

"First Computers" was the Amiga shop nearest to me, in Armley, in Leeds (England). They always had 1-3 page adverts in Amiga Format & CU Amiga. They sold hardware and software and also did repairs. It was a very small shop area with a lot going on in the back that the public couldn't see.
Around "the end" (97/98ish) it became Primatech and now it seems to be some NHS building

After Commodore released the A1500, First Computers in Leeds released an unofficial upgraded version called the 1500+, an ECS version of the A1500 that included the 2.04 Kickstart ROM
(from here http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/a1500.html)

This is an example of one of their adverts from Amiga Format in 1994

This place still exists here since 1982. Ive dealt with them since the mid 80's and they always had shit loads of Amiga stuff back then. Of course these days they have expanded into just about any computer games you can get your hands on!

There were quite a few shops in my area (all now closed!) the regular port of call was ComputerHouse located in Newcastle-under-Lyme. The store did not sell via mail-order, however PD Direct was also part of the store.

First it was located here:

PD Direct
86 GEORGE STREET
NEWCASTLE
STAFFS
ST5 1DN

Here is a current pic from Google maps.

Then they moved here:

PD DIRECT
8 FRIAR STREET
NEWCASTLE
STAFFS
ST5 2EZ

The main store was downstairs and the PD secion was on the first floor.

Here is a current pic from Google maps.
