WinUAE 4.4.0 under Wine 6+
Hello !
I just wonder if its hopeless for me to expect to emulate 68030+ with fast speeds and not get a EXTREME Cpu utilization on my Linux setup ? I tried to emulate a bog standard CD32 setup and that actually had OK Cpu utilization round 30-40% but fastest possible A1200 setup with 68030 - fastest possible setting - still went up to 100%.. :-( I had hoped the new build of Crossover and 4.4.0 could do the trick for me - and got my hopes up testing CD32 - but the accelerated CPU still went out of range on my poor i3-2core :-( I know there are some kind of CPU Idle settings ? But I've never understood them or got them to work ! Any hints are appreciated greatly ! |

Any reason you're not using FS-UAE instead?

FS-UAE is rather outdated. And native filesystem support is buggy, can lead to a crash.

Guess it depends on where you install it from, seems to work fine for an A1200 level setup. The PPC / OS4 setup crashes for me. I'd post any problems over there and we should work toward the native emulation instead of trying to get a library translation layer to be working for something as complex as UAE.

CPU idle basically does same as manually changing CPU speed between approximate and fastest possible CPU speeds depending on CPU usage. Long time ago it tried to adjust CPU power on the fly but it usually worked even worse. It also can't work if program takes over the system. (Yes, it needs better algorithm but thats someone else's problem to find)
Slider under Approximate CPU speed can be used to manually change emulated CPU speed which can reduce host CPU usage. Why is 100% a problem? Too much fan noise? |
