Didn't SWIV use half brite for the shadows?

That's a pretty good game with good graphics.

For some reason it sticks in my head that was how the shadows were done but I might be totally utterly and completely wrong of course.

Hardly any games used it, I think didn't Desert Strike use it? My hazy memory!

I think also Ruff n Tumble used half brite - graphics dims when you enter underground.

the caves in lionheart are in half-bright 64 colors i know it because i helped DJ thunder to cover the graphics cave parts to PNG. And xnview was not able to convert them from IFF to PNG.

????
Graphic conversion has nothing to do with which mode the game displays in.

indeed, i can't say why you're asking !

"i know it because i helped DJ thunder to cover the graphics cave parts to PNG. And xnview was not able to convert them from IFF to PNG."

DJ thunder wasn't able to convert the caves IFF files. He asked me to check the file so i copied them on my A1200, and i saw that they were in half-bright mode (no PC tools are actually able to convert them from half bright to PNG).

I had to convert them from 64 colors to 256 colors IFF files.

IFF 32 colors convert easily on PC from IFF to PNG, half-bright IFF files are unsupported.

Some A1000's couldn't do half brite, so some software developers opted not to use it. Later in the Amigas life, the A1000 wasn't really a factor anymore so more people used it.

so it wasnt that taxing? or rather more of a compatibility issue than performance?

Early compatibility issues, and also half brite mode isn't useful for every game.

32 colours with a further half shade of the same palette doesn't give a lot of variation unless of course you plan on lots of copper reloading to get more colours.

If you choose your colors wisely, you will have 64 different and usefull colors.

Black Crypt is a great example of how well a game in HB can be. It's a great RPG in the dungeon master style. Everyone who didn't try it out yet should do it now !

Nope, Ruff'n'Tumble is 32 colours the whole way. The palette just darkens slightly when you enter caves.

Maybe XNView can't handle them, but Photoshop loads Amiga halfbrite files perfectly so you can convert them on a PC.

simon the sorcerer ECS uses half bright runs in 64 colors
the colors there are amazing for an A500 game the difference with the AGA version which runs in 256 is notable but minimum

Are the level pictures in Agony EHB? Not in game but pretty spectacular.

Looks to me like desert strike used it in the title screen scroll, don't know about in game.
