Checking Hundreds of Virus Infected Disks

Hi Guys

Someone has dumped hundreds of Discs into my lap, also warning that back in the day, these particular people often had virus's on their discs.

I want to keep my Amiga safe, but i want to check them all for some lost treasures. If i download and install VirusZ as Georg has updated from here: https://vht-dk.dk/amiga/vz/vz.htm

Is that going to be the only thing i need? I'm a little nervous about infecting my system and alot of hard work going down the drain. I remember about certain virus that could survive reboots, and here i am going from disc to disc one after the other. Are we covered these days ...

There also shouldn't be anything new in terms of latest virus's so i think i should be fine...

https://www.vht-dk.dk/amiga/warning/warn.htm < not sure of anything else that showcases viruses, EAB vets might have links to something else.

you can check them with the likes of VirusZ no problem, just dont boot from them or execute anything on them, also remember to keep them write protected incase you end up wiping a bootloader on an NDOS disk when you didnt want to.

Given the choice between (possibly) infecting my Amiga system
and all that hard work, here's what I would do -

1. Get a modern USB Floppy disk drive

2. Get the Drawbridge floppy converter / controller
from RobSmithDev (or roll your own, if you've got a soldering iron
and an Arduino)

3. Set up an emulated Amiga using your preferred emulation software
(WinUAE / FS-UAE / whatever you'd like)

4. Connect the USB floppy disk drive to your host PC, and run your emulator software.

5. Then check and scan these physical floppy disks using Virus-Z
within the emulator.

If you find any viruses / malware, then you can either clean them or put the
disks to one side for later investigation.

Either way, you don't risk your physical (proper) Amiga computer.

It might be a little bit of a faff on, but its a very safe way to check the floppy disks,
without risking your actual Amiga.
