New Amiga Game: Game Shot (W.I.P)

Hi all

Firstly, let me acknowledge that I am aware that darts games on the Amiga (or any computer for that matter) aren't the most popular of choices for genres to make, but this was a very personal project for me.

"Game Shot" was born out of a need to take a step away from reality back at the end of 2018/beginning of 2019 and focus on something fun and distracting for a little while. This project took a few weeks, I can't remember exactly how long. This was the result of that time away.
It had sat on my PC for a long time until I remembered about it yesterday, so I made a video of it so people could see it.

It's mouse-controlled, so god knows how we're gonna be able to make it 2 players (unless the Amiga allows 2 mice? HAHA, I can't remember!)

We will release it later this year once Scourge of the Underkind is released, after that then we will focus on our new game project for Amiga (no name as of yet).

This darts game will be a free game.

Here's a video for anyone interested:

Thanks for sharing, this looks like a great darts game.
Sorry to hear about your Dad passing, I am sure he would be made up to see the dedication that you made to him.

Amiga allows two mice for sure, it is how Settlers and Hired guns are controlled for 2 players.

Looks lots of fun and 16 colour dartboard looks great!

It's really annoying people suggest improvements and this can lead to feature creep and delay the game but I do wonder due to the nature of the game whether a 256 colour AGA version would look photorealistic. You could even go the McGeezer route and be interlaced and even highres!!! Sorry - had to ask.

Can't wait to play - looks 180 to me!

It's always fun to chat about the possibilities
I hope to work with McGeezer one day.
Magnus and I are really passionate about the 500 though, I suspect we could do this game in highres+laced mode, but I had it in my mind to do it this way instead, so we can see those lovely pixels.
I agree, you could make it almost photrealistic for sure, but for now I am happy for it to look like a classic amiga game with a bit of a modern spin.

Looks great. The board looks excellent. Just one suggestion and feel free to disregard - it would be nice if when the dart has been thrown it is displayed at more of an angle so you can see more of the dart, rather that an exact behind the dart view. A bit of perspective on the darts would be more visually interesting. However, it would probably be a nightmare to draw

That's a great idea, I will run it by Magnus. As you say though, it might not look as good in pixels as it does in the mind-eye.

These darts games do this quite well:

... Arcade Darts
... John Lowe's Ultimate Darts

Cool. I wouldn’t want to have the job of drawing it though. Good luck with the project.

@DamienD the example of John Lowe’s there looks a bit funky. The angle is too much and looks wrong. Probably because it was hard to draw

On the spectrum there was this Darts game that - beside being programmed in BASIC - did rely a lot on pub atmosphere and humor; i see you are going for the professional league for yours but this one is worth to cite

Thanks for this LordN. (think I need time to accommodate myself with your new name ).
It looks really good. Nice competition in perspective with the two players option

I'm not sure I understand the controls but mouse control I guess would be nice.
After first clicking the target "left mouse button" the mouse could be dragged down while holding left mouse button. When you let let mouse button go the arrow will be thrown. Waiting to long it will be a very hard hit with little control, but you could still be lucky
