Benefactor - Disk 4???

Hey guys,

I was playing around with Benefactor last night. The the title screen when you can select Start Game or Enter Password there is also an option for Load New Levels. Thought I'd give this a try and see what happens...

When I do it asks for Disk 4. I've tried inserting the following disks but nothing worked:

* Benefactor (1994)(Psygnosis)[cr CLS](Disk 1 of 3)
* Benefactor (1994)(Psygnosis)[cr CLS](Disk 1 of 3)[t +3 FLT]
* Benefactor (1994)(Psygnosis)[cr CLS](Disk 1 of 3)[t +3 RBS]
* Benefactor (1994)(Psygnosis)[cr CLS](Disk 2 of 3)
* Benefactor (1994)(Psygnosis)[cr CLS](Disk 3 of 3)
* Benefactor (1994)(Psygnosis)[cr CLS](Disk 3 of 3)[a]

But noone says that it is impossible to create one In fact I own a level editor. It is unfinished but you are able to create levels. Unfortunatelly they are quite useless because I have no idea how to pack them into the additional disk. For a long time I can't get in touch with the author. Author created some extra levels for this game which are even supported by WHDLoad's Benefactor slave and I have also tested them. I will look for them and put them on the net (there are one or two levels). Unfortunatelly I can't do the same with level editor without author's permission.

But, interesting thing is that our knowledge about such an editor is such little. A man who created WHDLoad slave for Benefactor predicted that such disk could exist and he managed to adapt the slave to support the extra levels disk. Could it be possible without getting in hands such an extra disk? Maybe there is some other level editor or maybe some more extra disks but we are not aware of it?

If the levels editor was to be 'leaked' then it would be entirely feasible that some one could produce a utility that would be capable of exporting new levels onto the disk format required by Benefactor and the WHDLoad Slave.

But I have such an editor and its exported levels are supported by WHDLoad (BTW: this is the only way I can play them - I have no idea how to put the Disk.4 image back to floppy diskette). The only thing which is mystery for me is how to put created levels onto the disk or disk image.

I think I have to talk with WHDLoad Team guys. Maybe they would be helpful? Galahad, maybe you would like to take a look?

It's done!

The editor is available to public. The author has published its beta version.
You can download it from http://www.republika.pl/minniatian

The editor saves created map into RAM:map.bin. If you want to edit it later, you need to copy it from there. When your map is ready you should consider sending it to the author (rszacki@poczta.fm) and he will put it onto the additional disk (Disk.4) which is supported by the game (and WHDLoad slave of this game). Soon there should be a documentation available.

Keys

in the map editor:
s - to choose icon,
t - to copy icon,

in the icon selection:
c - to change the screen.

Hey bippym,

The only thing I could find for download that I think relates to Benefactor was a file called "BFP051.lha" (uploaded to The Zone!). This contained the following files inside:

... bfp
... bfp.guide
... icons.bin

Not use if this is the editor or not though

No problem.

Considering I do not understand the language used on the site it was quite difficult to find. Luck really
