Scala MM200 on WinUAE - does _any_ version work?

In a perfect world, I'd be running a cracked copy of MM210 on WinUAE without dongle support and be very happy...but there's a few things standing in the way of that.

- I've yet to see a copy of MM210 in the wild, cracked or otherwise
- The two cracked copies of MM200 I've seen (one by Mok in TOSEC and the other by Anthrox in SSC) don't work _at all_ - they install to hard drive, you try to run ScalaMM and it just doesn't do *anything*...you see a bunch of RAM allocated, then returned, and that's it. The Player app works from CLI on at least the Anthrox crack, I didn't test the player from the Mok crack.
- I have a 3-disk "update" for MM200 with a build data of 09-Sep-92, but I'm not even sure what it's for or how it's installed, so I haven't tested it.
- The two different builds of MM200 'virgin' I've seen (two different build dates of 29-Aug-92 and 09-Dec-92) do not work with the dongle support in WinUAE at all (Red or Green, and I've seen conflicting documentation on which MM200 requires, so I tried both with both builds). The Aug 1992 build throws a "Error opening scalamm.device" dialog, the Dec 1992 shows "Out of memory" (with 2MB chip/8MB fast).

Does anyone have a copy of MM2x0 that works on WinUAE, without or with dongle support? (Yes, I'm specifically looking for MM200/MM210, not the older or newer versions.

Pure nostalgia. It's the version I had back in the day and the one I know best. (It also, in my humble opinion, has the best demo of all the versions - they carried it over in very slightly modified form to MM300 and changed the music, but I never quite understood why...the visual display was tightly coupled to the original music track, perhaps the creator took issue with their use of it? Not sure...)

If I was planning to use it for an actual project, there are FAR more capable modern tools available on currently-supported platforms. This is scratching the nostalgia itch, nothing more. =)

Yeah, I've gone through the entire FTP server (including uploads), which is where I found the Anthrox crack.

Out of curiosity, I installed Scala MM200 (cr Mok) on WinUAE and it works fine.

Two observations:
- when I installed Scala on my 'super-hyper-mega-patched' WB 3.1 , when I tried to run it, a window popped up informing me that scalamm.library was missing. I manually added this library to system and Scala started up, but...

and Scala closes.

- when I installed Scala on clean WB 3.1 Scala work perfectly:

Interesting!

I'm trying it on a clean 2.04 (which *should* be a supported configuration), but maybe that's what makes the difference.

Will retest with 3.1 - thank you very much for looking at this!

maybe a patch like MCP's library search is finding the wrong scala or other library? could be a case for good old snoopdos, tho on my souped up patched system im having a similar issue with vistapro not running (the other executables with it run fine) and snoopdos seems to think all is well with no glaring fails, so its a case of "might help".

OK - just installed the Mok cracked version onto a 100% clean 3.1 install...and it does the exact same thing (read: nothing).

Mind sharing your full UAE config (just attach the .uae file if you don't mind)? This is something very specifically config-related.

Never mind - I have it up and running, but something is off.

Since when does Scala *require* PAL?

Self-replying...since always, of course.

I thought back to my setup in college (when I used Scala quite a bit)...and realized that I had the good fortune of an autoswitching 1084S that would automatically flip between my native NTSC and PAL on demand. This naturally required the PAL monitor definition to be installed, but otherwise was completely transparent...which is why I probably didn't even notice it was a PAL-only application back in the day. Mystery solved. =)

Thanks again for the consideration and effort! I really wouldn't have figured this out otherwise.

Rounding it out, MM210 (uncracked) is available directly from EAB!

It's attached to this thread:
