Archos Hard Drive

Hi guys

I was recently reintroduced to my Amiga 1200 last seen circa 1995.

Much to my amazement it fired up and I was able to have a play around. On raking through the storage box I found what I believe is an Archos Hard Drive. Unfortunately it is DOA but I'm curious how to get into it so I can view the interior components. It appears to be a sealed unit and although it is busted I dont want to break it apart. Some pictures are attached. Anyone got any ideas?

I also located the floppy installation disc for it. Happy to give this away to anyone who might need it although I suspect the contents are probably on line. If any old school punters are interested you can let me know.

Thanks for reading

I would be interested in helping to trying to resurrect it. I have the Archos Overdrive HD, which has a larger footprint:

It looks like the top cover maybe just snapped on? Hopefully it is not glued. Have you tried a plastic spudger, or similar, to try to pry it open?

Of there are seems at the bottom of the case, try the spudger on them.

Hi Solarmon

Thanks for reading and for the link. I'd previously stumbled onto that website. I tell you what if there was screws on mine it would have made my life a lot easier!

Before posting I tried the spudger but didnt want to force it. I tried it again after reading your post and have definately made the drive unusable.

Thanks for your help anyway

Send a message via ICQ to ElectroBlaster
Looks as if this has gone to the point of gaining access to the drive, then imaging in Winuae if it is not 100% DOA.

I would like to have a go, I will stand inline though if Solarman wants a crack at it

Hi guys

Thanks for taking the time out to read/reply.

Got the case open with the spudger once I had a proper look/go at it. Unfortunately the wire for the red LED was severed as my hand slipped. It would have probably still worked.

However I had to go & get my phone and in the time I was gone one of the kids managed to knock over a can of coke onto/into the drive. I am more than confident that it won't work now.

If no one is interested in the installation disc I'll just sling it.

I know this isn't the right thread but I'll be looking to sell everything Amiga related in the next month or so. I thought about ebay but if I sell it here I'd know that it will be going to a good home. If anyone is interested or wants to know what up for sale let me know.

Thanks again for your time and help

If solarmon doesn't want to have a go, post the whole thing to me & I'll see if it can be repaired. - I have a working Quantum LPS IDE HD kicking around somewhere....

Just make sure all the Coke is drained before posting.

Hi guys

Thanks for all the offers to repair. Unfortunately my more than efficient wife has disposed of the drive into the recycling which has just been uplifted

Thanks again for all the advise/offers.
