GVP Trex-II 4060

Hello Everyone,

Just been going through the closet and I found a GVP TREX-II 68060 Accelerator.

Anyone have the manual the tells how to set the jumpers on the A4000 motherboard? The jumpers on the card? Amiga Database doesn't have anything.

Any help would be appreciated!

THanks!

After I changed the motherboard jumpers from EXT to INT the 4000 boots.

Now I just need a 33mhz crystal to overclock the 68060 to 66Mhz

TREX II 4060 Memory and motherboard

What do you guys think, If my 68060 accelerator has 128mb of ram and I also have 128mb on my 4000 motherboard that's 256mb. Will it run faster or be of any benefit to remove the motherboard RAM and just use the accelerator RAM?

It won’t make a difference - the machine will prioritise the faster memory on the accelerator and will only use the lower priority motherboard memory once the accelerator memory is all used up.

Depending on your configuration, do at least try the Official 060 Libs before any other flavour.

See TekMagic v2.3 '060 here....

So many questions over a closet find... ;-)

How do you have 128 MB on your A4000 motherboard? I thought the "best" hack provided 112...

Thanks i will try the 060 library you suggested. I am just waiting for eproms so i can burn 3.2 ROMS

Then once the crystals show up i will be running the 060 @64mhz. Can’t wait to bench the 040 and the 50 mhz and 64mhz 060

The OS can handle it, faster first.

videofx, I know it's already installed, but by any chance do you remember what make of SIMMs you're using on your T-Rex II? Just curious, as Micron FPM SIMMs are apparently recommended by one user, though it should work with anything that's not EDO.

I'm a fellow T-Rex II owner, though mine is in New Zealand being looked at for possible repair (bought it from eBay a while ago).

FWIW, some new docs recently became available for the T-Rex II, that include official descriptions of two previously unmarked jumpers:

http://gregdonner.org/gvp4060/docs.html#T-RexII4060

Also, I'm very interested in any benchmarks you generate--would love to post them on The Unofficial T-Rex II (A4060) support page.

BTW, congrats on your ZZ9000, too--I think you'll like it. I have two of them, both running well.

Question on these - will they work with newer Kickstarts, or do they rely on patching a 3.1 Kickstart for 060 support, and if the KS isn't 3.1 things fail?

I'm seeing my board working fine under DiagROM (detected as a Rev.1 68060, memory tests pass), but trying to boot with 3.2.x, 3.1.4, or 3.X Kickstarts all fail - I just get black screen, never get the "insert disk" logo screen at all... This is WITH a floppy drive connected.

Unless your ROM on the TRex-II has been fixed, it will use whatever FFS is in your Kickstart and ignore your RDB. There are various ways of working around that, like loading PFS or SFS with loadmodule, or just fixing your ROM.

Yeah, but without any SCSI devices connected (anywhere) I never get to the "insert disk" stage of Kickstart. But as mentioned, board works and tests out okay under DiagROM - so I'm wondering about some incompatibility with an A3000 or AA3000+ and the various Kickstarts I've tried...

I would put some drives on it and see what happens or disable the SCSI if there's a jumper for that.
I have a 3.9 ROM but it's custom as I put SFS and updated FFS in it.
