Quick help with keyboard

Was cleaning my A2000 keyboard and when I put it together one of the plungers was different than all the others and I (most likely) put it in the wrong place.

Does anyone know where it should go? It's more hollow than the others, kind of and the key sits much lower. I'm guessing the space key but before I take it all apart and together again, I thought I might as well ask.

On the A1200, the CAPS LOCK plunger is different to the others. So it might be the case for the A2000 too?

Yes it is different but it's also molded different and can only go in that position.

On the left is how all the others look, middle is the culprit and on the right is the caps lock for reference.

I assume the keyboard was working OK previously and you're just cleaning it?

I would check the keys and see if there is one that is different to the others.

Will a key actually fit on that plunger?

The middle one looks like the one from my A1200. You might just have a rogue one that has been accidentally/intentionally been used? What is the history of the keyboard?

I think so too, I actually bought it with the space key missing and put one of my spares in so the plunger was likely in that location and I simply never noticed until now.

Anyhow, I put it there again and even though it sits a bit low it works just fine.

Probably a plunger has been borrowed from another keyboard.

Look under the keycaps. The one that fits into this plunger will have a little circular shoulder around the square peg that fits in the hole.

Wait, does that mean there are two different versions of Mitsumi key caps?

Yes. Your keyboard (like most other A2000/3000 boards) has the more rare style.

So it would seem as I tore down my other A2000 keyboard and found this under my 2 and 3 keys;

My guess is that in this particular case it's due to localisation as there were a few more of the old type and the keys has slightly different colour, different moulding, different printing and of course different plungers. This is highly annoying since I had planned on switching from Swedish to US key caps on this keyboard, which took a fair bit of time to find, and now I have to hunt down matching plungers too

I'd imagine someone has mixed and matched them before you got the keyboard.

Don't know yet, still waiting for the key caps. Should arrive in a few days.
