Just use AI Dungeon and pretend it's a game you programmed
Maybe make a text version of Dungeon Master, small scale. Maybe three floors or something, rip some of the puzzles and monsters from it. Story? Who needs story. Wizard bad. Kill. |

I think I'm ok now. All posts were really helpful but Cody's post to Usborne books was really great.
I knew there must of been stuff like that out there but I just couldn't find it and didn't want to go through every coding book and magazine from the period. So thanks everyone for your helpful Posts You are at the end of the thread. Where do you want to go now? You can't go that way. Last edited by Retro1234; 16 November 2021 at 17:22. |

imo, a good starting point could be something similar to Aztec Tomb (Tony Crowther), if not directly a port for the miggy, with finally the second part, never released iirc old milestone |

Such a shame there is not that much interest in Text adventure games, loved the art work and stories which set the mood.

By absolute far (unless you need to use retro-hardware) the easiest method would be to use Twine. Creating interactive fiction (i.e. Text adventures) is its entire purpose https://twinery.org/
And a beginner's guide - http://www.adamhammond.com/twineguide/ |

After seeing Nostalgia Nerd latest video I think a text adventure based around this Vertical Plane cold be fun but beyond me.
This has sparked a bit of a interest in this type of game for me and wouldn't mind giving some a go. I might try Zork, it's meant to be a classic. |

I did a course that included various OOP languages and you know it's just creating a form like the first few pages of a dummies guide and I'm being charged for it. The tutor thinks he's clever because he can do a multiarray and is proud of himself.
When I was a kid we did Visual Basic and it was much more advanced and we had ideas popping and creating great stuff and it was fun. What I'm getting at is a lot of college courses and teachers I've come across, programming seems to have really gone backward. It's not fun the teachers think their clever for the most basic stuff. The students aren't interested. It's almost like that's sir's thing we're just here to witness him. |

You're not wrong, you need to get lucky. When I went to school a long time ago it was burnt out people that couldn't hack it at the office anymore that had begrudgingly become teachers and were thus basically teaching how things were done 10 years earlier as if that was the only way to get things done.
But for ever 5 bad ones there is usually one really good teacher that makes it worth it. |

I have had some good teachers in the past. A good teacher is something special they inspire you, you trust the opinion.
