Sadly the industry (and the customers) never learned the lesson from the Tomb Raider 'franchise' (also a really horrible allegory). Today we have so many 'just more of the same' game series and they sell just fine no matter how dull and/or horribly broken they are...

They do, that's why lesser known games such as Ori and the Blind Forest and Wasteland 2 exist.
But that doesn't change publishers who paid REALLY close attention and are applying the improved formula to this day. |
