A1200 accelerator card question
Hi
Quick question: Can the stock 68000 processor still be used if an acceleraator card is fitted to an A1200 (as a co processor)? Cheers JonB |

Hi!
If you fit an accelerator the on board 68020 CPU is disabled. Some Accelerators such as the Blizzard's allow you to disable the board by holding down a certain key at bootup so you can fall back to the 68020 for compatibility, in this case you loose the extra memory too. All the best, Steve. |

Sorry 68020 sorry lor' bless yer Guv'nor....
Cheers mate PS, new keyboard turned up today. It's WHITE. Very WHITE. Gonna have to break out the Retr0brite, LOL. Anyway, here's the rub. I want an upgrade this 1200. Do you think it's worth paying the extra 100-odd quid for an accelerator vs. say an 8MB ram/clock board? And.. Which one should I look out for? I'm guessing a Blizzard of some sort, but wondering what will give best bang for the buck, and whether I would actually use the additional power. Last edited by JonB; 03 July 2013 at 20:54. |

It all depends on what you wan to do with the Miggy, if you just want to play WHDLoad Games then an 8mb Ram board or one of the ACA1220's (loaded with 128mb Ram) will serve you well, the 25mhz ACA1220 will even give your workbench a little boost.
Next step up with be an ACA1232 or Blizzard(or other) 030 board, this will open a few more doors such as the capability to emulate some other systems, a nice boost round workbench and better performance in 3D Games Above that 040/060 boards, really only if you want to break the bank and watch demos/play Doom/Quake |
